Oh yes, these bring back memories. What's fun is walking around the departments and seeing what decade their steel monsters hail from. If anyone is interested in these I'd advise checking with your local universities, school boards, etc surplus departments. Chances are they'll have some available for a very reasonable fee.

We’ve said it before, but it bears repeating; the GS handles in ways a two-story building was never meant to.

Taking collections for Faye Butler Training please spare some change.

Well, I only need one, my wife would have me committed if I brought home another, besides, there's no room for more!

That's the kind of desk you can play "interview the secretary" on.
A folding table? Not so much.

I had one of those as my main desk for awhile.

It had been repainted tan, and I had the bright idea to strip it and clear coat it (don't do it...)

Looked ok for awhile then started to rust. Cleaned it up and sold it on cl to a local hipster for $40 bux after a few years.

Can't use one where I'm working now (limited/small stair ingress). If not for the access I'd be using one now instead of my POS Scandinavian Designs particle board one. Truly an eco desk, will last generations.

cool find

The aerospace factory I worked at in Nashville made Globe-Wernicke steel office furniture in the '60s in between aircraft programs. Aviation being what it is the workforce there expanded and contracted, reaching a peak in the '80s and then shrinking dramatically in the early 2000s. About 2003 or so they decided to get rid of a huge amount of excess tools and office equipment that was just collecting dust in empty parts of the facility. I snapped up two of the Globe-Wernicke desks, one big steel work table, a couple of tall file cabinets, three or four Kennedy machinist boxes, and paid less than $100 for the whole lot of it.

I felt really bad for the movers who took one of those desks up the narrow little staircase in my house, but they managed to do it. That one did get painted since I wanted the office to look nice, but the other one in the basement still has the old original scraped up tan finish. Great stuff!

Every Fire Station in my city (Corpus Christi, TX) has one or two of these. After the Naval Air Station upgraded in the early eighties or so we got the surplus. I am typing from one right now.

By golly, good eye! Right next to the FTdx-5000D

Main Battle Desk...that is a good one.

Yea, no secretary is a permanent fixure in the office until she been screwed on the desk eh?

I have to admit, I'm surprised how many afficinados there are.

My biggest beef about most desks is that they are simply not deep enough, this one IS.

You made me go look at the local university's surplus site. There are 4 up for auction, starting at $5. Might have to grab one, use it as a reloading bench or general shin killer

Ive seen some pictures on the web where guys have gone over the top painting them. Candy paint, graphics, metal flakes. Looked AWESOME! Perfect in the garage with a matching beer fridge!
