Some of them would list a vehicle in one of the Northern states, but the picture would have palm trees in the background

Yea, also saw one listed that was in Florida. But it was on the street and all the other cars in the picture had Euro tags on them

I got the same scam yesterday for a tennis bracelet my wife is selling. They e-mailed her asking if it was still available, she replied with a simple, "yes." He replied back: I am currently offshore, but would like to buy this for my son's fiance...
I just laughed and told my wife to delete the emails and never respond to that e-mail address again. Its not just car's people, they will do it on anything! |

The NEW part of the scam is using Google Checkout. I had also never seen anyone offering a "fictitious" vehicle for sale, instead of the usual offering to pay by Paypal for your vehicle. Since I just saved a 20 year old daughter from one of my co-workers the grief of losing nearly $3000 I figured I would spread the word to help others. I guess some people just spend more time on the interweb than I do.....

A friend of mine recently lost her job and went on craigslist in search of another one. She found one for a caretaker for someone's elderly sister. The email she received said he was looking for a place for her to live, and that he would wire $2800 to my friend, who would keep $300 for her first week's pay, and send the rest to his real estate agent.

A young co-worker of my wife was scammed out of $7K and they almost got another $3K before she realized she was being taken. It was one of those deals where the seller placed an add for a legitimate car that was for sale, it just wasn't their car. When I saw the email correspondence back and forth it was obvious from the first sentence. Hard to believe some people are so gullible.

I remember a guy on KTMTalk seeing his bike for sale on Ebay. Someone drove by his house and took a pic of the bike, on the trailer parked right in front of his house. Then posted it on Ebay.
He contacted them and told them he wanted the bike, he would come pick it up. They wanted to ship it, even tho they said they were only 20 miles away. Think they ended up catching the scammer since he gave up his home phone number. |

The thing with all of these scams is that they prey on people greed. A £25,000 car for £10,000, yeh like thats going to happen.
My Uncle died in a plane crash and I cant get to the money he left me unless you send me some for my legal fees, I will give you 10% of $5million. A lot of the paypal frauds use the fact that the purchaser can say 'goods not as described' and get a refund, or if they are selling they have a bank account just for paypal and keep it empty, they then sell goods they dont have, you pay for them, the money hits their account and they withdraw it. It is all to easy for them unless you rae ultra careful. |
