Sadly sold my 2006 540 KTM but replaced it with something fun and a whole new direction. It doesn't suck at all. Just putting some finishing touches on it now.

Try riding a 1200GS through the woods...
And a 450 XC-W is a light weight, nimble, rock climbing, tree dodging scalpel.
Yes, that is a bash guard strapped to the top of the pile on the back of the pig. And that was a GOOD, CHEAP day in the woods. The expensive day was when both Vario cases got broken off in separate wrecks (and I had to go BACK down the trail about 3 miles when the post-crash retaining strap burnt through, the case fell off, and I didn't notice). The same ride also cost me a winglet and a blinker, and then the zipper on my whale foreskin lined BMW jacket got crushed between a rock and the bike rendering it inop. Of course I wasn't wearing the jacket when I went down the second time resulting in some rock rash. And I still had a 2-hour ride home on the slab... ![]() At the end of that trip I said "Self, there has got to be a better, cheaper, less likely to end up stranded miles away from civilization when I am too tired to lift 500lbs of motorcycle for the fifth time today -- maybe a teeny KTM bike..." And then the wife agreed... ![]() ![]() So the GS is the "daily driver" and long haul specialist (since I fixed the luggage) and the 450 is strictly for off-road (until I can install a dual sport kit.) I am keeping the TKC-80s for the Beemer, just in case I need to carry my entire family to the hills to escape from the zombie apocalypse.
