Ride to Alaska in the summer of 2012
Alaska ride has been on my "to do " list for years. Is someone doing it this summer?
I have not started planning yet. Any suggestion will be welcome. Thanks.

This has been on my to do list and want to go up the Cassiere Highway but now it is paved all the way. Oh well it will still be a beautiful ride.
I drove back from Juneau to Haines then up to Haines Junction and back down to Seattle from there. It was awesome and I dream about doing this on my bike. I think the ultimate ride would be getting a photographer pass and riding into Wonder Lake in Denali Ntl Park. I rode the bus into there and it was gorgeous but no vehicles are allowed in unless you have a photographer pass in late August or the first week of September. Anyway, good luck and would love to here more about your trip.

My father-in-law and I are leaving for Alaska on June 11 and returning around July 4th. I picked up a copy of The Milepost and have a rough route mapped out, but plan to mostly play it by ear.

Think you will find that there are a lot of bikes heading up that direction! Also a lot of information on ADV. Go to the Regional AK section, lots of good info on planning from the locals. My self I am leaving around the 19th or 20th of June for Alaska and taking a month. Current plans are to go east and do the icefield parkway throught Banff and Jasper and meet another rider in Dawson Creek. From there to Fairbanks, ride the the Dalton and depending on time hit some of the other sights. On the way back do the Cassier and then the Sea to Sky hwy through Whistler and then home.

Many thanks for the feedback and insights.
I will take the 1200GS. No brainer. The Beta seat is good for 50 miles or less. Thanks.

I agree, just ride it. It is almost all paved anyway, plus lots of other bikers.
Give yourself 3 weeks if you can, we did it in 2 last year, and that wasn't enough time for 6200 miles.

I probably will leave around 6/13 and be back before 7/4. It is time for Alaska. Anybody?
Thanks.

We're possibility going in August. My brother only has 2 weeks off though so I'm not sure how far we can get. It'd be a shame not to reach Dead Horse.

I'll be riding to Skagway end of August. Heading north via Kelowna, Lake Louise, Prince George, and Haines, then up the Cassier into the Yukon, across and down to Skagway, then the ferry south to Prince Rupert, back over to Prince George, down to Whistler, and back home. Averaging about 400 miles a day, taking 11 days, as I work and have limited vacation time.
