R1100 rattling noise from engine
I have a 1998 R1100R with 30K miles on it. Bought it 18 months ago with 17k. Love the bike, it's a daily rider for me.
About 3 weeks ago, I started hearing some rattling noise coming from the engine while riding. At 1st it was only noticeable under harder acceleration and it corresponded more to throttle position than anything else.
I've read Joey's (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=507843) and Slartidbartfast's (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=616187) posts back and forth. A video of my bike sounding terrible:
Here is what I've gone through so in this order:
1. Upgraded left chain tensioner
2. Replaced all timing chain components (chain, guides, tensioner) - nothing looks worn, old chain looks as good as the replacement one
3. Checked/adjusted rocker end play based on this post: http://www.advrider.com/Wisdom/OREPADv1.0.pdf
The bike is perfectly quiet until it warms up (1st 5-10mins). Then it starts rattling, but sometimes it completely goes away - just came back from an hour long ride before recording the video and there were few min long stretches when it was running quiet. Sometimes it quiets down after hard accelerations.
