Hesitation between 5.5 and 6K rpm

Just brought home a new to me 2008 990 Adventure. Rode it home 250 miles yesterday from Cleveland, OH on the interstate with no problems except that I noticed a hesitation. Today the wife and I went for a 80 mile back road ride and I was able to pin point that at 5.5K rpm the bike acted like it was fuel starved and then once it got to 6K it acted normal again. Everywhere else in the rpm range was fine. No jerky throttle, only once you hit 6K it jerked backed to life. Any ideas how to fix this?
