Cross spoked rim manufacturer

Can anyone share the name of the manufacturer of the rims in the cross spoked wheels?

IIRC they are made by Behr exclusively for BMW (who hold the patent).

No. He can seal spoked wheels, but I am investigating a source for bare rims.

Already have.

If it is true that the wheels are patented by BMW, which will be easy to research, it will preclude buying the rims from Behr or any source other than BMW.

Thanks, guys.

The Moto Guzzi Quota used 'side drilled' spoke rims similar to the BMW/Behr product.

The Aprilia Caponord used a different 'side drilled' design.

The Yamaha Super Tenere 1200 has a tubeless spoked wheel design as well.

Glad this thread was started as this winter I have to do something with the original 1100 rims as they are really showing their age, the Yamaha design really has my attention- fitment for the GS??

If you compare the orientation of the spokes at the hub in each design, you may reach the conclusion that the BMW hub and Yamaha rim are incompatible.

Maybe. Though a standard rim can be laced to a BMW hub. And the spoke locations on the Yamaha rim are the same as with a 'standard' spoked rim. Different fixing method notwithstanding. Based on that it looks like the Yamaha rim will work with the BMW hub.

Woody to the white courtesy phone.

Can't you buy the rim off BMW? e.g. 36 31 7 701 491 for R1100Gs front.

Akfont used to make for the airheads.

Cheers

Sure. But maybe he's trying for something less than $500 per hoop.

Tnks guys for the input-unlike an awful lot of GS owners I do like to keep the bike clean, especially the rims, spokes; and for that reason the Yam design is appealing-really appealing .

Is there a definitive link/source for all that will fit the GS and just what can be done to the unanodized original rims to make them 'better' than new again.

An old timer once commented that one can tell the condition of the bike by the appearance of the wheels and I think there is an awful lot of truth to that statement.
