I've bought that thinking it could carry two helmets, but doesn't... It looks really big, but I need it to take my notebook/backpack and rain suit in my daily commute. pros: - good water resistance; - good impact resistance; - not so ugly. - cheap than an all-aluminium. cons: - heavier than a aluminum top case; - looks like a small ufo; - My wife says I can start working delivering pizzas. ![]() You can see some pictures here |

The theory is that the air that passes through the lower area creates a low pressure area under where the air above passes over. this should create less buffeting.
Same theory with most all hole/dual screen fairings. cheers, Mark

Yep, the air isn't so much going through the screen, rather up the back side of it. That's why it's not just a round hole. More of an air intake-like design following along with the airflow.

My Madstad looks like yours..
After 3000 miles to Big Bend NP and 5000 miles to and around Alaska I find it nearly perfect. The wind protection is great cruising at 75mph on the long straight roads. After 9 days of riding in the rain it looked real bad but cleaned up nicely. In my opinion you can try any screen you want but the Madstad is an excellent screen with enough adjustment to fit nearly anyone. I'm 6' 1" riding an F650GS and the screen set about 4" below my line of sight and i have no buffeting or much wind hitting my helmet; I do get some bugs on my face shield though.

Continuing the "question assault"...
How much do the winglets help?

I made some custom winglets when I had a stock screen and was experimenting. The winglets made a big difference with buffeting.
It's quite a challenge to find a system that has a good balance of noise/buffeting removal and not being a monstrously large screen.

Madstad winglets
The winglets definitely keep a lot of cold air off you. Actually, I notice them most in reverse. If it starts getting warm, I need to pull them off or I start roasting.
The madstad screen IS a huge barn door - no way around it. Definitely NOT suitable for real off roading, it moves around quite a lot (IMHO, due to the mass of the metal faring bracket and the cantilever effect of the adjustable mounts themselves) and it is tall. Gravel and dirt roads are fine. If I'm doing anything more exciting, I pull it off, stick it in a t-shirt and bungie it to my duffel bag. Both due to the height hitting me in the face and how hot it would be at low speeds. The only other system I would consider would be the Mirage-type set up, but that sure is pricey. You can see it strapped on the back here:
