An R65 followed me home - Page 3

Week three and been using Ruby every day, my 46 km round trip to work. Actually the ride to and from work is the highlight of my working day.....
Bit of blue smoke on start up in the morning when left on the side stand...gearbox change has the odd graunch but I think that may be due to slop and adjustment.
I'm getting used to the 100 km buzzy feeling...and it gets up to 120 very easily.... shocks are a bit bouncy though.
Been thinking of when the tyres are worn fitting some 'adventure' tyres..... cheapest ones of course....looking at the Mitas ones?
I quite like the look of that 650 GS posted earlier.....would need a a set of spoked wheels for that....some say the r65's with Brembos can accommodate a 19" spoked one.

Filled it up after 9 days of commuting...hit reserve at 394 KM....took 20.2 litres to fill up....$45.00 ish...56 MPG ( IMP)..

..not bad for round town with about 5km of motorway each day.
My last cheap buy a 1987 Yamaha 200 Skootah would do 30 kmpl but ...interesting on the motorway.....with its top speed of 100 kmph.

That's what mine does, on open road touring - but on Waikato back roads 100km less to reserve. I don't ride enough in the city to see what it does, but doubt it would be the same as top gear economy.

I think the clutch is due for replacement as it catches between gears...
Put it on the bench tonight and changed the tranny oil and adjusted the clutch arm in the hope of some improvement....the oil was a bit tired looking/smelling.

Really enjoying riding it every day...so nimble....so cheap to run...nearly 30 years old....

pondering on G/Sing it.....or at the very least spoked wheels..... might get some new shocks for it....I'm a convert to IKONs after the racer and the now departed Thruxton ( but not the shocks)

Went for a ride with my mate with a Ducati 1100 Sport.....he thought he would be waiting for me to catch up....Sure I had to keep it on the boil but the R65 sure likes twisty roads.
Pretty quick up to 130 thru the gears, but needed to drop down to overtake cars.

Nice. I really liked the gearing of the R65 when I rode one recently. Perfect for the twisty stuff.

Bought a set of dented Commando Pea Shooters ( one of finest sounding mufflers of all time) on TM for just over $20.
Plan was to make up a 2 into 2 for the racer.
Last weekend took the R65 out for a run and the r80/100 mufflers bodged on started to fall off....fortunately I had a roll of insulation tape.
After a week of riding to work the tape was getting a bit tired so time to do a proper job.....
Hmmm, wonder if the Norton ones would fit....not only did they fit the fixings lined up....only had to make a 90 degree bracket.
Sounds great now...more like a British bike

without the oil leaks and breaking down

Yes, I had a ride on an Monza round the Corro Loop a couple of years ago, I was on a 50/5 and swapped for a while, they go really well.

Tonight I rebuilt the Konis I got off Ebay with new seals, fork oil and lighter springs, fitted them and ready for test ride.

Picked up an R65 and sad R100 motor today all the way from the mainland....

Now I need to see how I can fit r65 heads onto my r45 piston/cylinders.....as there is a bit of shrouding.....
The inlet stub ID on an R65 head are 35mm

.....and I was thinking 30 mm dells .....might go with the 32 Bings...
