electrical troubleshooting help?

An '86 XL600R. Stock stator bit the dust, replaced with a Rick's Electrics high output stator. Prior to the original stator dying, the following modifications to the stock setup were in place and all functional. Using an ignition black box from a Honda 400EX quad, a battery eliminator, non-stock turn signals, solid state electronic flasher unit, and a different headlight. The bike starts and runs easily, and the headlight works. All other electrical stuff is out. I disconnected and tweaked the 4 pin connector, and had idiot lights, turn signals, horn, and brake and tail lights for just long enough to make it to the gas station 2 miles away. Since then, nothing. I made a "modification" to the 4 pin connector so I could verify the pins were actually going into their mating parts in the other half of the connector on the bike wiring harness, and everything seems to be making good contact, but still no lights (other than headlight) and no horn.

According to the stock wiring harness, the pink and/or yellow wires that continue to the regulator/rectifier are where my problems lie? The yellow/white wire goes from the connector to the headlight dimmer switch, and that is working.

Obviously, I'm missing something, but what? Is there a clever way to check continuity across that damn 4 pin connector without stripping insulation from the wires on either side?
