What is this plug for?

Can anyone tell me what plug on the top of the battery in the picture below is for? I already did some searching but could not find the info (did find this picture).

You can connect small accessories there that will go on and off with the can-bus system (they'll come on with the key in the on position and go off 10 - 15 seconds after you shut off the bike) I have a voltage meter and the hard wire for my gps hooked up there. I don't remember where I got it from; but there is a plug made for doing this. I think it was called the can-bus helper. Hope that helps.

Don't know exactly. Can't find a description anywhere in the useless BMW repair and service DVD.

It's not wired into the battery is it? edit: no it isn't.

Thanks. Hadn't gotten around to putting a voltmeter on it, so I thought I'd ask. The plan is to install a PDM60 power distribution block. I've owned all the others with various bikes but this one is better, imo. Solid state, waterproof and Aerostitch won't tell you this... it's completely programmable.

You can get the wire/plug from your dealer for about $20. As I recall, I believe it carries up to 5 amps and as said above, it runs off of CAN bus and goes off ~30 seconds after the bike shuts off. Usually. I've got mine wired to the relay for a power distribution block and it has not gone off a couple times in the past year, so on my list of things to do is to change over to a headlight tap for my relay.

The mating plug is available as a service part from BMW, or from F800Depot.com

Here's a little ditty I did with the thing:

A word of warning: I originally wired my voltage monitor and my garmin power "brick" voltage converter to the plug.
The Garmin converter accepts 12V and knocks it down to 5V for the GPS.
What I found was that the converter somehow confused the canbus and at times would leave the circuit energized indefinitely (the voltage monitor LED would stay lit all the time). In order to fix the problem I ended up wiring the Garmin unit directly to the battery leaving just the voltage monitor LED on the GPS "plug".

You can maximum pull 5amp from the cambus.

I did the same and put a switch to switch ON/OFF the GPS

I connected my GPS on it using a plug supplied by BMW part number 83300413585 the 1200GS also uses the same plug your GPS will switch off 60seconds after you turn your bike egnition off
