Not to worry, Jim, I think you're still correct. My understanding is that it's stored and updated in both the cluster and the computer, and the displayed value is whichever is greater. I guess some German with a clipboard decided that was a good way to beat odometer cheats.

That said, I've yet to see a definitive how-to thread on switching the clusters. Maybe Some Dude will chime in .... I think he's looked into this recently.

Sorry if I cannot understand all the english spirit (ideas behind words)..

I can tell you that I was said (by dealers) that when BMW swap to BMSK-P, the computer decided to set up the highest mileage between Cluster & BMSK-P if a 'second-hand' cluster was installed.

For this reason, I will buy a 0 km cluster to replace mine on my MM2

Well in my case with a brand new gauge cluster the thing should read whatever the mileage was on the bmsk unit. I have the origional but bought a new key from MAX. As you hardcore BMW gs/hp2e captains know from seeing the first batch of pictures the origional gauge cluster was roasted.

$6900.00 + 600 more on the way from MAX and the new cluster from alpineride ($500) + $200 and change to get a new "R" title here in FLORIDA. Unless I drive up to Maryland to get it done. Since the origional Maryland title says"less than 75% total damage" that would allow me to get a new - non "R" title I believe.

Those who have never done what you have done will never understand the reasoning behind the money spent. I am on my 5th project build, from the ground up. I build "Mad Max" freak bikes worthy of museum display. You have done a fine job. My hats off to you. What next?

While I agree that a bike builder's opinion matters the most, I think everyone here is curious / excited about how a bike will run after fire damage.

-unfortunately, as is common with these total revamp to complete-and-utter-coolness projects, there's a few little technical wrinkles to iron out still-

-it was just a little fire-
