I can't ride long rides without earplugs and turning the ipod up doesn't help. How do you guys do it? Custom earplug/headphones? The regular earbuds have me cranking the volume so high, I'm def from wind and Alice in Chains.

I too am not a fan of the custom earpieces. Most are made of hard plastic that transmits any wind or other vibrations directly to your ear bones. Those are Much more noisy than the earbuds that have squishy foam that fills your earhole and seal out road induced noise. I like good sound.

I use these Shure earbuds. They lay flat and the wire goes over the ear so helps prevent them getting yanked out of your ear:

Well, since you're in Colorado you could go over Mosquito pass. Let me know how that works out for you.

West to East is easier IMHO. Picking up fully loaded GSA multiple times at 13,000+ ft. Priceless.
