I was the same as you and I finally caved in to keep an eye on someone and I have to say, it's been a pretty good experience - I have got back in touch with so many people I have not heard from for years. Just give them the min of information (and make stuff up if you need to), lock everything down so YOU decide who sees what, not the wankers at FB and you'll be fine.

Used intelligently, it's a great way to stay in touch with folks.

I spent hours riding a tenere and it doesnt have enough power to get out of its own way. I have had two Triumphs and never had one problem. The engineering of this bike is head and shoulders above the tenere.

Motomuppet funny you should mention the loose battery connection. I was stranded Brno, Czech with the same problem. Shut the bike off to reset GPS and then nothing. As a last result wiggled the possitive and what do you know, I got power back. It was 95 sunny and in leathers. Really sucked sitting on the side of the road.

I know it is sidetracking but first edition Varadero (a really old bike) will out accelerate any of those 0 to 60. So what? Does it matter?
Vast majority of bikes will do 0 to 60 in 3.4 seconds. May be 800XC too. One twitch or sleek tarmac path and this 0.X seconds differences are gone and pointless in real life.

All of them fast enough, some have more some less exciting (psychologically) power delivery.
Sutenere power delivery is not exciting. But it is linear and there is lot of it. It may feel gutless but it's not. Nor Tiger. They are rather different category thou. Race Sutenere against Explorer if you want to be fair. 0 to 60 rather pointless just as well as roll on difference of 0.2 seconds.

Does the OP have a new bike yet, or is "Peter" still having communication trouble? I hope he gets some resolution soon. Sounds like my experience with BMW. I'm done with boutique bikes for a bit.

Wow. Drag racing adventure bikes. Is that what you do in SC?
First, neither bike is made for it.
Second, how would you even tell which bike made it to 100 mph first?
Third, and most importantly, you are talking 400 more cc's on the top end. None of this proves anything other than the tenere has more top end which we all know is true. And that doesn't help the fact that the tenere still has no bottom end. It's a product of Japanese engineering and that's just a characteristic of their motors. Especially in the tenere. I spent quite a bit of time on the Tenere and it has great balance but no balls until you get waaayyyy up in the rpm's. Even the vast majority of tenere owners agree. Hell, even the owner of my local yamaha shop said the same thing.
They get the motor to where it has even a hint of grin factor and I would have considered it.

I'm your huckleberry? Whats that mean?

Would be an interesting (if pointless) race though. My money would be on the XC up to around 100kmph or so then the Yammy would blow by.

I believe the point that was being made was the Tenere feels slow...for a 1200cc bike...the power delivery makes it feel sluggish and lethargic.

In comparison the 800cc Tiger feels lively and fun.

Somepeople clearly enjoy large displacment, relatively slow engines...just look at all the Harleys on the road
