I have a turtle pac 5 gallon rubber fuel tank that folds up nice and flat when not full. Pricey when new put one of the most rugged foldable tanks around, glad I got mine used. I've had to carry 13 gal before for certain trips, nothing better than having plenty of life blood on board and I hate walking when I could be riding

Gas
4.5 gallons extra. I feel MUCH better knowing I have it, rather the worry of not knowing if I'm going to make to the next gas station.

I have been thinking of doing the same thing (because I am a dirt cheap KLR owner). Did you take the rear pegs off or does the mount fit over them?

The Reda cans are pretty nice. They spec as going inside Harley bags, but they also fit in RT and R system luggage pretty nicely. Keeps the weight down low and snug. One in a bag, or each bag, and you have almost 2 gallons available. I was gonna build a rack for a Rotopax on the back of my R, but those boogers are large!

Not trying to poop on you, but it sounds like you need a method of gaining 'DOPE'. Data On Personal Experience. I use a site to track all of my fuel expenditures and consumption on both of my vehicles - mymilemarker.com. It's pretty simple and has a mobile interface, so it's easy to use from my phone at the pump. What it does is lays out a graph of fuel consumption. What you could do with this is track your fuel consumption and then look at the graphs. Figure out "why was my mileage lower here, and higher here?" Once you know the variables that affect your fuel economy, you can come up with a safe distance based on conditions to ride before you should fill up. Now, I'll admit, I don't have a dual sport, and I'd guess that when you guys go off road, it affects your fuel consumption quite a bit, so even with some DOPE, it may still vary greatly. |

Gatorade and Ice tea
I know a Gatorade bottle will last a long time holding gas. The plastic cap may be the weak link but it will go a month or more also.
How about the 1 gal Arizona Ice Tea plastic bottles? Are they made of the same type of plastic that gas does not seem to bother? |
