[QUOTE=Rustic]A couple Madison County, NC signs.

Hey I know that area, it's just around the bend from Hot Springs! Hwy 209 is a great riding road - so is Hwy 63 over Doggett Mountain for that matter!

Affirmative. Thats a Gila or a beaded lizard. Either way, they are both the only venomous lizards in the world.

The first one was fun and had a cool looking sign, but the second one intrigued me... there was no tunnel

it was called outage work, as in when the plants shutdown for refueling every 12 - 18 months, there was all the work that could not be done while it was running, that had to be done.

So we traveled the country working 12-16 weeks of 7-12's, made big piles of $$ + per diem and were laid off. Then we either went to the next outage or took a break between outages.

I had several friends who lived on sailboats. They'd cruise until funds were low, they'd either anchor and fly back to the US or sail home and start calling friends looking for another outage to refill the coffers.

a good outage would enable them to sail 6-12 months before running outta $$.

It was holding a job where you only work, sleep work sleep, repeat for a couple of months, then the job is gone.

A very very different lifestyle ... lotsa parties after outages ... made good friends all over the country ... sampled cuisine from all over ... life was good

I miss it sometimes, it's the gypsy in me I guess

Yeah, me too... sometimes.

A friend of mine, maintenance planner at VY say's to me in Vermont a couple months back, "you interested in an outage?" I say's, "nope done with that 10 years now and you know it.".

Then out of old habits I asked, "how long is it?"

17 days!
