I Got Rear Ended In a recent Trip To Mexico And Need Some help/Advise on Repairs

When I was rear ended in Ciudad Valles it broke the locking mechanism that secures to the right bag to the rail on the moto. Here is the broken latch.

Here is the left latch, that is fine.

Where can I get the latch only and how do you replaced it?

The latches broke on the trunk lid. How can I fix or repair this? I am not too concerned with how it looks, after all I am a KLR owner! This moto is now only used as a beast of burden in Mexico and Canada, I just need to be able to fasten it properly. Yes, I should have had a Rok Strap on it before it broke!

Your second issue first. I would make a piece of metal fit over the latch and onto the case top about an inch bigger than the latch, and fit it tight against the top. Then epoxy it on. It will puff out a bit, but if you sand it and primer it it won't show much. But it won't look real pretty.
On the latch onto the rack, can you get in behind it and remove it? If so, then you could fabricate a replacement part, or get a replacement off an old case that is scrapped out somewhere.
Where, I don't know. Or what material could be used to make a replacement part, I don't know.
But I think with a little engineering, it can be done.

BMW has the replacement parts. Take a good look at the tangs where the bags hang on the mounts of the bike. Those are weak and break as well.

I think those are the tangs that hang the box on the bike that Donnie needs to replace. I see that part on the MAXBMW parts fiche, but not on the 1100 GS. Only on the later model.

No, I have actually repaired one of those before. The latch that is broken is the metal latch that clamps around the mounting rail from the bottom side. It is the latch that closes when the other most handle is closed. The first three pictures are of the broken latch, the second three pictures are the unbroken latch from the other box. Thanks!

I might have a "multi-purpose box" somewhere, that's the assemble with the latch that secures the bag to the bike. I'll take a look. Here's the part # 46542307620.

Thanks! Can you purchase just the latch?

MaxBMW lists it as $160.89. But I cannot tell if it is right or not. It looks like the full handle assembly. It does describe that number as the part that holds the box to the bike.

It's part of the multi-purpose box assembly. I have a couple.

Would you be willing to sell me one of the latches and the direction on how to install it if you have them?

I have used a entire tube of two part epoxy especially for plastic and it is holding with the limited amount of riding I have done in town. I may get another tube of it or try some shoe glue I have at home.
