So that's where those blue calipers started. " Oh, Lord, won't you buy me a Beemer RS ? " Enough silly stuff, give us some more about this bike.

Makes my purchase yesterday look like an absolute bargain . I can think of a few things that I could do with the extra $13000 that I saved ( Ok its a 91 not a 77 )

Is that a factory color? I'm really liking that color and would like to use it when I get around to doing my much needed paint job.

Original Matte Silver- very nice!

The website shows the pinstripes on the spotless wheels.

To many, that is THE factory colour.

Does anyone else find the other pix hard to open?

Thank you!

I have the same model heading my way I bought from a guy in Chicago. Now I have the photos I need to do a proper restoration.

Simply a work of art.

Dang! Everything about it looks brand new! That's a museum piece, not a rider.

Hate to be a nit picker but it needs to have the blue pinstripe rims to be complete and as far as I can tell it doesn't.

.

EDIT: I blew up the original pic and maybe it DOES have the pinstripes ... if so my appologies

It's interesting to read everybodys posts.
Nobody seems to be put off the by the price, except me.
I realize the bike is a stunning example of the most desirable year RS, but is it worth over $16,000 ?

What a great bike. I had one for quite some time.

Bought this one from a collector in Memphis in 1999 for $8000. A 77 CFO model that had been restored and upgraded to 40mm carbs and exhaust. I rode it pretty hard for about 10 years and 30,000 miles and sold it for $7000. Lots of paint chips, road wear but still looked good. I miss looking at it, that's about it.

Better looks than handling was my experience. Ran great in a straight line, not so much in the corners. Very unstable and wobbly. I never did any suspension or other mods which may have cured my woes. I wanted to keep it original as possible to maintain the value. If I get another RS is will be a 88 mono version.

Definitely the suspension. A set of dual-rate Works Performance springs up front, a fork brace, a San Jose top clamp, and a good set of rear shocks transforms handling of an early RS. My 77 never wobbles or goes unstable, ever. Agreed, stock suspension is pretty lousy, especially 35 year old stock suspension.
