1st trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway.
I moved to Charleston a year ago from Arizona. I figured it was time to both get a break from the humidity and see a new area of the country and ride on a famous road. The forecast called for storms all weekend...it was dry and beautiful. Traffic was light and there were lots of other cool bikes on the road.

As much as I love the dessert and some of the beautiful mountain areas of AZ, you have made a great move!!
Enjoy the ride! |

Lived in Charleston for many years myself & I know what you mean, the Asheville area/BRParkway was always a welcome change, especially in the summer. We would stop & camp on the fly. Never did the BRP on a bike but I did get to do a few bits in a 911S once.
I'd go up there and realize how I missed all the terrain & back country (the Lowcountry is pretty damn flat). Eventually landed in Vermont. Looks like you had a great time. Beautiful in the fall too! (Not quite like VT, but pretty nice!) |

Spent a week 'camped' in a motel in Asheville first week of July, rode loops out of there and explored not only the Parkway but the wonderful roads off to the sides! The Parkway got boring, we rode it so often back and forth from the other roads, but they were superb. Check out the roads around Little Switzerland, Spruce Pine and Roan Mountain when you get a chance.

Yes, riding a motorcycle in Charleston in the summer is a treat, isn't it? I rode my bike to the Tail of the Dragon from Charleston a few years ago (I had a Honda 919 at the time) and it was wonderful. I recall clearly my trip home as I was coming down out of the mountains into South Carolina and being punched in the face with the blast-furnace like heat that stayed with me all the way to Charleston. Actually, the oppressive heat took my mind off the excruciating pain my arse was experiencing from the 919 seat
Thanks for sharing about your trip to the BRP. CharlestonRider |

You're lucky you weren't riding it in VA. We got rained on all weekend for our little 2 day BRP trip.

Ah, you made a great choice. I'm on my second FJR, that is what I rode the Parkway on in July. I put Rick Mayer seats on my FJRs, long days are no problem. I also have a Wee though, and would like to take it back just for some of the enticing gravel roads we saw.

Thanks for sharing and letting us ride along. I was down there in June and July, my favorite roads.
