No fender or rack mounts and it's expensive for an Asian made bike. I'd rather have this.

So what if it's three ounces heavier.
Since the Lynskey family sold the name Litespeed, if you really want a Litespeed, get a Lynskey.

They look pretty neat.

Firefly, Moots, et al are all good bets too (there's a small company in Denver that split off from Dean that look like they build great bikes too, but I forget their name)

And now a Merlin is just a Litespeed.

Steve Potts is another one to look at. That dude's been around since the beginning.

Are you thinking of Black Sheep? I think there are one or two others in that area, but I forget. Who's the dude that makes those swoopy frames that flex to give suspension?

I am pleased to report I just hit 700 miles on the new Marin. Made the mistake of taking it to a mechanic for the first tune-up and then had to fix the things he fucked up myself. I should have applied my motorcycle lessons and just sussed out what to do myself...for what I spent for that idjit to leave me with a mechanical rear brake that didn't, well, brake, I could have bought a service stand myself.

I took a 6 week summer vacation so didn't do much bicycling this summer on the road bike, just the cruiser around town. Estimate that I have about 900-1000 miles total but don't keep track of the cruiser's mileage.

The one way commute I am on is about 12.5 miles. For me this is perfect, an easy pedal is now about 54 minutes. Two ways each day gets me 25 miles further, at no stress. What's amazing is that using the car would take around 35-40 minutes due to traffic, so the pedal bike is also time-competitive. Sorta.

I am already shopping for studded winter tires to keep this going through winter. It's either ride and rust or take the bus.

I like that last line, there

Took a Redline Carmel Conquest out for a test spin yesterday, nice ride/ wrong geometry guess I better stick to the upright seating and "mustache" handlebars like on my Schwinn... the Conquest gave me f one hell of a kink in my neck after a few miles. *eta: nope, more like @ the base of the skull - it's a condition developed, I think, from taking a tumble on a mountain bike, coming downhill on a dirt road in S. Korea where the corner curved more than I could make the bike go @ that speed... - landed on my head. Good thing I had on a helmet - got back on the saddle and continued to soldier on after the stars cleared away.

Yeah, I get that from time to time as well. Sort of between and just above your shoulder blades?

I find that with daily riding it gets less of a problem but damn, when it strikes, it hurts. When I got the Marin, it had shims in the steering neck to allow the bars to placed at various levels. I had the bike put together with the bars in the highest possible position and it helps, compared to the more aggressive racing posture on some bikes. Maybe you can consider a head which brings the bars up an inch or so?

I once saw that last line, ride and rust or take the bus, on an old dirtbag Harley t-shirt. This was back in the days before the t-shirt thing became bigger than their bike business, so it was just an old dealer giveaway. Saw it when I was at a rally maybe 25 years ago and it stuck in my head. Anyway, I can't take credit but I loved it when I heard it.

Guru

Had a blue Serotta Fierte (AMAZING bikes) until some low-life mother*(#$&@# peice of worthless sh** (but I digress) stole it out of my storage locker which was in a secured room (key access only to residents who have storage lockers in that room and staff) in the secured garage (in my apt building) last October (welcome to DC! We'll be stealing your bike now...)

Insurance replaced it with this

Which is almost as awesome and change to spare! (dont mind the shop owners butt up in the corner...)

Oh, the apartment bldg also upgraded our storage (so now I am the only one who can even get close to it or see it) for free.

Now I just need to find time to ride between work, school, the wife, and the motorcycle...

It was built by Dario Pegoretti, and is tig welded Columbus XCR stainless steel. It's the Responsorium model w/ his random Ciavete paint scheme. I'll snap a few more pics, & post finished bike pics after I build it.
