Thanks for those insights Gary. So, endurance was the biggest challenge? Guess the only way to know is to just do it. Wade.

Sponsorship for Wade
I've got a crisp $10 bill to begin Wade's sponsorship. And I'll see if my radiologist neighbor will give a pre-race discount...

Now we are talking! I need some external motivation, heckling may work too with sufficient expletives. I wonder if they have awards for the slowest rider?

Yeah, definitely endurance was the biggest.....definitely need a chest protector at least for the start, shin guards, etc, and there are no mental breaks until you get off the mountain and take it easy through the endurocross course for a minute or two - up the mountain obstacles include constant elevation up or down, rocks, roots, switchbacks, narrow passages sometimes crowded, heavy dust, etc. Oh, and don't get discouraged when a teenage girl laps you......there are very few people up there to see it happen! There are spotters along the way though in case there's trouble.
Regarding your son, they do a shortened version of the course. Can't remember, but I think the course was either 2 or 4 miles for the young riders. My youngest was still just young enough to do the easier course. I think it was still challenging, but no so much that it wasn't fun for him. He was glad to complete a lap with 20 seconds left so he could do one more round..... My oldest was 13 and had to ride the big course - he made it around one time, and it took him an hour.....I was happy he just made it down, lol. He said there was an Australian guy up top who helped him get off a root who told him, "just try to make it around once mate!" I'm pretty sure that same root was cause for one of my getoffs - big root right during a switchback. Definitely worth doing (once anyhow). I haven't got the courage up yet this year.

Sean, you sure they didn't just put in a tack strip for installing carpet? I'm sure wade is putting plenty of thought into an excuse for not doing the race... I'll bet it'll be a solid consequence of a vaginal silicosis flare up.

Hey MTDuke,
A gent was asking about the Garmin Montana over in the "Helena Handbasket" thread here: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...2#post19371132. If you care to pipe up, feel free. I forgot to ask you, last time we road, how the touch screen works with gloves on and how robust the screensavers work with rubbing back and forth with dust, grit, etc.

USFS Map Overlay on Google Maps
This has really helped me ID area trails so I thought I'd share, it's just an overlay of the Bridger Mountain 2011 Motor Vehicle Use Map on Google Maps.

Big Sky scramble update?
So, Wade, are you gonna be in the scramble or can I spend my $10 sponsorship money on birds and booze (and waste the rest)?

Ya, I wussed out. I hope you took that 10 bucks and did something good with it. As it turns out I might have been better off. I was shoeing a horse today and got one nail pulled through my leg and another rammed up my hand. Would have faired better on a bike probably.
. Goddam horses.

I had a blast on this road today! Short but sweet and a nice alternative route to Flathead. I love that stuff like this is only 30 minutes from town, we are really lucky here
