Paco Pad

Wow! Everyone I know that uses a Paco Pad ..... carries it on a raft. Never seen one on a bike before!

Hey good meeting you two hooligans at WestFest and then again at RMAR.

Glad you all got back home safely.

Holler next time you're out here in CO.

Rob

Hey lookin forward to this report. Was great ridin with you guys. going thru my pics right now
Coming home was an adventure. Maybe because of all that extra wieght + a lot a xtra dirt & oil all over my bike, after 13 hrs of driving Scotts car broke an axle half way back, in Des Moines, Iowa. With all of ~ 2-3 hours sleep & just coming off driving I took off on the bike wanting to get home same day. Fell asleep 3 times on on the bike on the way home. Whoh that's scary. 16 1/2 hours riding, got home just after 1 am on tuesday.

So, as Rob and I were getting geared up and ready to come down from Pikes Peak is when we met Reuben the Indian outlaw. We chatted for a few and then invited him to tag along. Turned out he was on his own solo adventure from Georiga and knew nothing about Westfest or RMAR.
We soon learned over the course of the next few meals that Reuben likes reubens. That all he ate.

Down from the Peak

So on with the ride plan. We are now headed for some passes north of I-70..

Riding North

also Berthoud and Ute passes North of I-70 before ending up back south, in Breckenridge.

Rob, add pics of Ute pass if you have any.
Thanks for the Pics Reuben.

None from Ute, Sorry. Mine start again in Breckenridge. Standing by to see what else you add.

Here's one from the Brewery.

Let's see.....

Breckenridge brewery is where Rob and I are having our our "lucky U" beers and Rueben is.......well.......having his rueben..

So..this is where we decide to look for (ADV member) tent space. In no time flat, Ruben hooks us up with "jjustj" in Dillion. Thanks J

The next morning we had an awesome breakfast and headed out for Boreas pass.

Ahhhh... from Boreas Pass we were off to Mosquito Pass and then Weston Pass. Mac gave us fair warning about Mosquito. I rounded the corner and to my surprise, I saw captian Morgan.

Always steeper than it looks.

Well, we didnt stop in Aspen, but we did see Happyriding" there. We pushed on to Marble Co. and while doing so Rob lost his top box right in front of me just after I snapped this pic.

It held up rather well, dont you think?

We were looking for Scholfield pass when we stopped and asked these guys.

after a few sips of shine...they advised that we turn back.... It was late in the day to we back tracked to a dot on the map called Redstone.

Not sure what happened to the top box, except maybe the drop on on mosquito pass released the lock.

Well we rode through Redstone as Todd explained and Asked those guys if the pass was open and if we could make it. They said "oh yeah easy" Something didn't feel right about the answer and after looking at them figured a little TN's finest might lube them a little and bring out the honesty. It worked after a sip or two they said we were crazy to try it. Believed them this time. We had to decide to ride another 1.5 hours minimum over another dirt pass to get to Crested Butte or get a camp site and head back to Redstone for dinner. We all voted to stay. Redstone for dinner amounted to a nice meal at a bar that I remembered from 20+ years ago.

Todd and I did a little sidewalk surfing.

Before heading back to camp I talked the boys into a bath I found while I was waiting for them to catch up when my top box fell off. Could not imagine what was keeping them. Should mention here the top box is where I kept the heater while riding. oops. Note to self; smaller gun next time keep it on you at all times.

Free bath

We were talked into a mud facial. I don't have pictures but I know advtenn does. We looked like Rambo

Returned to the Crystal Club for one last beer in clean cloths and it turns out I knew the owner from 20 years ago and he remembers me. Billy was awesome to us and let us sleep on his back deck and left the bar unlocked so we could use the bathroom that night. The Crystal Club should be a stop on every ADV'ers travels if you are in that neighborhood. Ask for Billy, tell him you know us and prepare to be welcomed in a way that would make a southerner blush. Great people. Can't thank them enough.
