I don't want to turn this into an oil thread, but would like to know what oil/weight people are using.More interested in the cam head as that is what I have.
I had the 600 mile service done and MaxBMW used 10w50.Then on a trip about half way to the next oil change I decided to have the oil changed.New motor, hot weather,etc...So I went to BMW Knoxville and had the oil changed. They used 10w40.I was getting about 42mpg on the 10w50.After the oil change with 10w40 I started getting close to 50 mpg.
Thanks for any info.Later,JB

Hi JB,

I had my 600 done at Max in CT. and they used 20 - 50W oil. i'm still getting a pretty steady 48 MPG, sometimes 50 if I'm strictly highway.

I'm pretty tied up for the next couple of weeks, so we might have to wait until Sept to have that lunch OK? Happy riding until then!

Thanks for the reply.
I'm in no hurry. We can get together for lunch whenever.
I have some Spectro Golden 4 20w50 that I purchased for the '09 GSA.Not sure if I want to use it in this bike or not.I may try to trade it in at the place where I bought it for some 10w40 or 10w50.

I`m woundering that since the engine uses a dry clutch , one could put any type of oil in it (being car or bike) as long as it has the right weight. I have been using Rotella T 15w-50w (non synthetic) in all my bikes for years & most likely will use the same in my RT.

I've heard that in one of the other forums, and it would seem to make sense as we have dry clutches. But does anyone know for sure?

When I was headed out for a big trip recently (7,000 miles - almost half in Mexico) my dealer told me to just use any decent quality motor oil and not to worry to much about the details. I did in fact pick up a quart of 10w-40 at a Pemex and still have part of it (I think the Spanish label looks cool on the shelf in my shop).

I need to research for some wilbers ESA shocks for my 07 . I'm stuck in 2 player mode, which is ok even for single but I'd really like it set up for me and maybe a little more ride height on the back to quicken up the steering a touch. I have thought about an exhaust but it doesn't seem right on an RT somehow. So if anyone out there has looked into suspension replacement I'd love to hear about it. I think Hyperpro do some too.

I think Hyperpro has suspension for the RT,not sure about your year. You could call EPM and check it out.I just ordered a Hyperpro steering damper kit from them for my '12 RT.
It might be the Metzeler tires but I don't like the feeling when riding over tar snakes.I had the same thing happen with a Ducati Monster and I installed a steering damper on it,and it was fine after that.

Putting an exhaust on an RT, just makes it sound like a louder fart machine.

I use it with no problems. The latest rendition of the standard Rotella has a JASO rating...and I even think it might be a JASO-MA rating, which would be ok for wet clutches, too, but having an RT, I've never really researched that part...

I have a staintune on mine and doesnt sound too bad for a boxer. More like a soft growl than a fart.

It's sitting in the corner of the garage..

I just can bring myself to put it on. I love the sound now. And without the headers I doubt I'd see much of a performance gain.
