Perhaps www.kedo.com or at ebay, I havent owned many bikes, but It would seem to me that yamaha would use the plugs/connectors, so they should be kinda easely available :)

Jens, please don't take this personal, but what you are writing is plain wrong. It is incorrect from ANY technical point of view.

I'm not saying anything new or unique either. ANY popular dedicated XT600 fansite lists/corroborates the same information that I have shared (or someone could even "accuse me" of retyping), which makes me even more puzzled about what/why you are writing.

Indeed, my reason and motivation to set things straight is not to be right, but to point out to others NOT to follow any example of riding with low oil level + simple measuring the oil level after riding, where even seemingly strongly compelling anecdotal success has more to do with simple plain luck rather than following correct mechanical principle.

Regardless if the oil is in the frame or in a separate oiltank, the oil level in our drysump system DOES fluctuate while driving. That is the reaosn why you CONSEQUENTLY can't rely on ANY reading after driving, warm engine or not. IT IS JUST PLAIN IMPOSSIBLE.

BTW: There is a simple valve inside the engines of ALL XT600 that is supposed to prevent the oil from leaking down. This valve goes bad on many XTs, which then leads to leakdown over night.

I don't know what "mechanic" would say that.

You can idle any XT600 engine for ANY extended period of time. The cooling fins are generous enough to easily dissipate any heat that is generated during (no engine load) idle.

Im sorry you have a hard time understanding what I write. English is not my native language, so its hard for me to find the right words, so I can explain exactly what I meen.

We certantly dont visit the same forums. Heres a lot of talk about the bikes need to be fully warmed up before checking oillevel, to be honest, and I am, you are the first person I've ever notice to state you dont need a bike fully warmed up to check oil level. So we kinda live in our very different worlds eh? :)

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...xt-600-a-63658

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...2003-oil-34054

More stuff:

"Here comes the big mistake a lot of people do.
As much as the engine is only running idle, on the center or the side stand, the oil pump will not work properly and will not send back in the oil box enough oil. I am not very technic. I do not know why, but this is what happens.
Lot of people flow the 2 litres of oil and then let the motorcycle idle in order to check the oil level in 1 or 2 minutes.

When they check it, they have a shock seeing no oil in the oil box. And most of them will pout more and more oil. I know cases of guys who have flown even 4 litres of oil. "

Previous, from this very thread:

Your bike should take right around 3 quarts with the filter change. When you are refilling, only add about 2.5 quarts to begin with then start the bike to cycle some of the oil through before adding the remainder. Otherwise you will overfill the oil reservoir and you will make a mess.

Remember to check it after it's fully warmed up...if you check it cold you will get low readings (or nothing at all).
More here:

Heres more talk:

http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...have-put-54173

Issues with idlemethod when you have a defect on the checkvalve:

"Drained the engine oil today - raised some further questions. I got about half a litre out of the oil tank and then another THREE AND A HALF LITRES!!!! out of the crankcase???"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
But I know (now) that we will never agree, so I guess well each tell people what we think is best, and hopefully we can both move on =)

Hi Jens, perhaps the misunderstanding might be due to some language issue. Indeed, if you revisit my original post about the oil check method (http://www.advrider.com/forums/showp...postcount=3556), you'll find that it covers all of the above issues. Let's move and focus on fun. I searched and found some pictures of your bike - your setup looks fantastic. Cheers, Andreas

congrats, mate, it is really pretty, especially with the acerbis tank... you will need a new set of tires if you want to go offroad but you'll love it!

any details? mileage? what about the aftermarket exhaust pipe and screen? And do I have to mention - throw away the stock pegs - they're too narrow for serious offroad, ask Bosley :)

Is there anything I should pay special attention to with them ?

I have a 09 XT660R at the moment... Its a bike I have not
been able to bond with... no idea why.. just don't like it
for some reason...
Have a guy makeing noises about it... hope it sells...

Getting my 2003 XT600 ready for a Cape York Adventure

This is my 2003 XT600 which I am kitting up ready to do Cape York.
Have added some of Bosley's fantastic stainless steel footpegs, fitted the Acerbis 23L tank yesterday and I am about to add a Ventura Rack System in the next month or so.
I have done some fuel consumption testing on the high speed dirt roads and it is returning about 4.3L/100km or 23km/L which I am very happy with.

I managed to get my bike final for the season. I installed the Lockhart Oil-Cooler, Mocal Thermostat, Tool-Tube, an Aluminiumplate to protect the enigne and bosleys footpegs. Changed the Oil to 10W60.

Yesterday I played in the dirt with a firend, was really fun and exhausting with the heavy machines.

Thats the clutch cable. It had been moved from the left to the right side in 1996.
The 3TB of 1995 (3TB 4PT1) has the second last engine development, the new design and the full 45HP in the papers.
