CS Seal Leak, '78 TS185

Hey All:

My original 1978 Suzuki TS185C has a small oil leak. After sitting for a week or two, there will be some oil on the bottom of the shift lever. I removed the left cover, cleaned everything out, retested, and it appears to be transmission oil (10W40), and not 2-stroke oil, so I'm guessing that it's coming from the countershaft seal, behind the sprocket.

Can this seal be replaced from the outside, or do the cases need to be split in order to get at it?

Seal can be replaced from outside, but its easier if you have the special tools required, and if not it might be better to find a good shop to do the job for you.

One way to remove them, is drill a small 1/16 hole 2 of them and use a drywall screw and some pliers, and tugg that bugger out

+1, may want to cut just the tip of the sheet rock screw off so as not to damage the sealing surface if you lever it out incorrectly. damhik.

Thanks for the suggestions, all. I have at my disposal the Harbor Freight Blind/Pilot bearing puller kit, perhaps that can be deployed to some degree (at least the slide hammer part of it).

I'll start my parts search...
