Seems like a nice little bike for the city.

I'm pretty sure I saw that bike and rider practicing at Floyd Bennett field not too long ago.

Lack of stickers and the white with black beak and round headlight had me scratching my head too.

Attention!

Just to give Inmates a heads up: NYPD has been aggressively ticketing on the HH Northbound near GWB. I have not been pulled over but they are patrolling in unmarked cars etc. to make the best of their revenue generation exercise.

Also, I got pulled over for a "Safety Check" on 125th and Amsterdam by an unmarked car. Officer was polite but gave no other reason than they were doing random "Safety Checks" in the area, WTF. I was AGATT and riding very sensibly.

Thanks the the heads-up re the Henry Hudson.

What day/time was the "safety check"?

As for those "safety checks", yeah, WTF indeed. Next time ask if they're checking only motorcycles. If the respond affirmatively, please consider passing the word along using the Checkpoint Alert System (http://nymstf.org/cas). Add the NYMSTF phone # to your cellphone contacts and it'll be easy to get the message out while the uniformed yutzes are busy checking your papers and pretending to be genuinely interested in your safety and well-being.

Thanks,
-Brad

Nice find and a great discussion of the facts and related issues - I'll have to add a link to the NYMSTF site re the construction permit database.

Thanks HaChayal. Looks like I'm all sorted, went through Farnet in the end. Not the cheapest option but the lady was keen to make it happen and made life easy, so got my certificate through. Just going to wait for Monday to pick the bike up. Heading up to Toronto in the meantime. Catch up with old friends.

And I've bought a Route 66 map, but we'll see. Might just head west, and keep heading west til I hit water. Then stop.

Just a question, parking around the city; is there any guide to it? So far I've seen bikes just parked on the end of the line, just before the junctions. Do you need a ticket for this?

You've opened a can of worms, Nathan! NYers love nothing more than talking about parking!!

Here's what you need to know:
http://www.nymstf.org/TipSheet-NYC_Parking.pdf

You can park where cars park. You can park up to the crosswalk at intersections (ahead of the stop line). If you park at a pay-and-display parking meter, pay and keep the receipt in your wallet. If you get a ticket, submit the receipt online as a defense and it will get dismissed.

Another parking question

Fellow NYFFs,
I'm starting work at a new location tomorrow (Monday) on 57th, between 2nd & 3rd. What's the parking like in that area? I imagine it being midtown legal options are few and far between. I'd prefer not to have to walk several blocks for easy parking, but...

Oh, and if you're curious, Whole Foods is opening a new store at 226 E. 57th on August 23. I'm running the coffee bar upstairs.

I think 58th betw 1st and Sutton is regular alt-side. Also definitely further down on Sutton, but a bit of a walk for you. Congrats on the new job!

Let there be light!

Met up with George (GHO100) at the Ear a couple of weeks ago to check out his auxillary LED lights. I was impressed at how bright they were, wanted a pair for a X country trip I have coming up. Picked them up yesterday, mounted them up today, was a painless installation. I'd highly recommend these things to get you noticed in NYC traffic, or for enhancing your night time riding. Here's a few pics...

Mounted them to the fork legs.

What cagers will see

Here's a shot from the seat, stock low beam.

Stock high beam.

Low beam and the LED's.

These suckers are bright and they draw very little current. Thanks George.

LGIR and I were just talking about these lights couple days ago. Our main concern is traffic visibility. I guess it's time to save a penny or two and get in touch with George

So tonight I got wind of a checkpoint operating at Fordham and 207th.

I'm figuring why today and the weird hour.

Then someone pointed out today was the Dominican Day parade.

Now it makes sense. After all the NYPD was operating two or three checkpoints during this year's Puerto Rican Day parade.

Naw, this isn't racist at all...
