Also worth mentioning to anyone considering what kind of hard luggage to buy, Pelican cases appear to me made from the same material as the indestructible black boxes that they put on 747's.
5 stars, no complaints.

No pictures of Kebler pass. I did take some of/at Lost Lake which was a side spur we took from the top of the pass as an after thought.
![]() ![]() Think Todd is trying to pinch one out in this picture. ![]() Got to Crested Butte for fuel and saw this cool old truck. Bought some high quality zip ties in the hardware store to hold my luggage on after the locks failed in the tip over. Shot up the street to an outdoor store to see if they had a core lock for a Yakima style rack that might fit the locks that hold the luggage on my bike. No Luck, onward, Left CB and headed up the Taylor River road towards Cottonwood pass, then took a detour to the small town (almost a ghost town) of Tincup. Stopped there for lunch. I was convinced we could get to Buena Vista through St Elmo ( a true ghost town) via some pass not on my map. That pass turned out to be TIncup Pass and almost everyone told us we could not do it with our bikes. Last time I heard that was Mosquito Pass so after lunch we bypassed Tincup Pass and headed to Cumberland Pass and Pitkin. ![]() Humming birds were everywhere. ![]() ![]() The Summit of Cumberland Pass. My skid plate made a racket on the ride up this. Need to figure out what is going on and fix it.

Found this side spur off of Cumberland Pass, It looked promising like it could take us over the range to Buena Vista. The only name we saw for it was Alpine Tunnel. Turns out is was and old RR grade most of the way and not too hard. Very Scenic particularly near the top.
![]() Second on of these we have come across on this trip. Old water filling station for steam locomotives. ![]() This is right after the hardest pitch on the whole climb. It's around the corner behind us. The trail forked right looked really hard. The sign indicated the Alpine Tunnel was to the left. That works, onward. ![]() ![]() Took these a little farther up the pass. Within a half mile of the summit and the tunnel. I remember looking up at the top of the ridge and thinking, "thank God there is a tunnel." There is no way we are going to make it over this thing.

Todd, thought you would have filled in the part where we got to the top and the "tunnel" was closed. Uggghhhh! Down we go.
![]() Headed to Salida via Pitkin and Monarch Pass. Stayed at a youth hostel. I was able to repair my shaky skid plate with a great deal of assistance from Todd and the Hostel owners vice. Funny thing was a lot of people left the hostel very early in the morning like 4a. We may have been snoring in 3 part harmony all night and could have been the only ones who slept.
