Hot oil bath then air pressure? Or better yet just a little stream of medium pressure water jet, perhaps?

+1.

I then use some very fine emery cloth on a Very Flat sanding block ( I use a roughly 2" x 4" piece off of an old Corian counter-top) and gently remove any rough spots and/or residue left from the process.

Thanks men, I will give it a try. This part is notorious for leaking so I want the surface as clean as I can get it.

on the big agnes insulated air core sleeping pad and jetboil after 4 days on the road

celebrated outstanding trip with Matt, grand daughter, brother with family from Pa. by soaking the old christmas tree in drain oil and lighting the tree for the second time followed by fireworks by Matt..

due to unique geography of the Gaspe we rode into the interior for 45 miles only to be stopped by deep water on road so it was 45 miles back out.......but the ride was nice as RJ would say...

riding partner was on a WR250R and loved every minute on the ride. we did about 1000 miles together and he is quite happy with the WR....

pictures after family clears this weekend......

I recommend using voodoo. Use some chicken blood, and rattle some bones. Works every time.

This is going to sound like crazy talk but...reuse it?

A nice sharp wood chisel has worked. Point away from you and all like that.

Something like this may also do the trick. Never used it - at least not that I can remember. Several versions out there. Doesn't sound quite as intimidating as this product.

Don't over complicate this Rich. Just get a nice new razor blade and scrape it off. Put a skim coat of rtv or gasket maker on the new gasket if you are worried and put that thing back together.
