Day 11: The End

We suddenly realize, it's along way home. We had better get started.
We quickly catch up with a group of Canadian riders we met on the tour.
They were only riding about 35. I thought about passing them, but it
wouldn't be cool to zoom past them just to slam on the brakes.
We really need to find a place to sleep.

We found a place to set up camp 14 miles south of Deadhorse right on the beautiful Sagavanirktok River. (Say that name fast. I dare you!)

The mosquitos were soo excited to see us.

It was a little breezy, but not really very cold.

It was a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ooooooooong day!
It didn't start so well, but ended up being one of my most enjoyable days of riding ever!

We had been going for about 28 hours. Happy Anniversary to us!

BTW, Every time we set up camp and sleep will start a new day. Otherwise, I'm gonna get real confused.

This is a truly grear RR. I must say that Helen is quite the trooper to hang in with you so well. She is a keeper but I'm sure you know that. Best of luck and have a safe ride home, by the way the weather her sucks.....hot and humid.

Is that a 150?
Maybe the 150 lasts longer than the 140.
We used a 140 for the first time and it was horrible.
It was completely destroyed after 3000 mi.

Anyway.

I like your new tag line!

Belated wishes for a Happy Anniversary! was it July 1st?

Taking a good picture is pretty easy. Creating a body of work like this is not. Very few people on the planet can do that.

Bravo, sir!

Day 12: The Dalton Highway Again

We were so exhausted you would think we slept 10-12 hours, right? After only 2 hours we are both wide awake.
The sun has circled around and is shining inside of the open fly. We are being cooked. I'm out of the sleeping bag
and sweating profusely. We are only 20 miles from the Arctic Ocean, yet it's in the 60s. We decide to pack up and...

Ride the Dalton... Again!

The clouds build on the horizon...

a fact Helen mentions at every break.

It doesn't take long to realize the 2 hours of sleep were not enough. I find my concentration is waning.

The Brooks Range draws near.

We ride through a brief shower and Helen forgets this camera isn't waterproof.

Day 12: The Dalton Highway Again

Only a little dirty.

The Dalton Rollercoaster Ride is Free!

We are approaching the Brooks Range on the way back, yet the bike is not all that dirty. The other motorcycles
parked in Deadhorse were coated in mud so thick the license plates and stickers were completely obscured.
Thay had all ridden up the previous day. Someone remarked it wasn't fair that our bike was so clean.
I joked that I ride so fast the mud can't catch me. I don't think the BMW riders were amused. The bus got quiet.

We were very lucky with the weather and road conditions to this point. I felt like we were cheating.

The Helmet Cam was mounted for the run up Atigun Pass.

Have you ever wondered what it's like to ride the Dalton? Well then, here you go.
This video includes most of Atigun Pass and a magical ending.

Yes. She is actually tougher that me. Thanks!

Our anniversary was the 2nd. Thanks, Kelly!

It is the 150, which has a different tread pattern than the 140. The wear really slows down once that center tread touches down. I think I've finally found the right tire for me.
Then again, I don't ride stuff like you and Matt. Bad things happened when I last tried.

Even though that last photo isn't from this report, it becomes related later...

Day 12: The Brooks Range - Atigun Pass

I should point out that we threw away the little orange camera in Fairbanks.

Most of the moving photography now is being done by Helen.

This is looking back at the Atigun River after starting the climb.

I slow down and move over into the slick stuff to give this truck the right-of-way.

It had rained here recently leaving a slick surface and reason to take it a little easy.
