motooverland top rack

Hi, my top rack is asymetrical underneath, are they all like this?

I would like to include a picture so that my question makes sense but can't figure out how. I tried to cut and past; it looks OK but when I submit I get the error "The text that you have entered is too long (1042794 characters). Please shorten it to 40000 characters long.". The file is 400 x 300 pixels, 35.4KB

If anyone can help me post a picture I'd be grateful

Stiffener cut short

If you mean the stiffener underneath, mines like that too.
Curious to find out why as well. Not that it matters, the rack is great......

the stiffener underneath is more on the right in case you want to hang a rotopax off the side (added strength). you can only hang the rotopax off the right because of the muffler on the left. that's why

cheers,
Mark

Hi stegzzz!

Yes it's what markymcd said. He was testing a proto way back when so he knows of what he speaks.
To elaborate more: the reinforcement rib underneath is not required for the top rack to perform it's standard "top mounted" functions but it is needed for the side mounted Rotopax option. It's asymmetrical because it's only where it needs to be to do that function so as not to add undue weight. Not that it would be much but still it all adds up. I'll post pics so everyone can understand when my pic hosting site is back online. (I stole one of Motoriley's pics from my thread for now Thanks Motoriley! :http://advrider.com/forums/showthrea...536723&page=10)

As for pics you really want to get a pic hosting site like SmugMug and then you can post as many as you want, as big as you want. Just copy and paste the link from there to here using the pic icon above. There are instructions somewhere around here...as well as SmugMug discount codes.
SmugMug was started by Baldy , who started all this

Glad to hear riders are liking them!

Fire away with any q's

Thanks,

Dave

I did find a limit to Dave's rack, but I worked around it.

I have a Givi E45 monokey Luggage case mounted on the rack. Used Dave's holes with the givi mount kit, but with the rack in the rear position, and case mounted, there is not enough room between myself and the case for a passenger.
Since the rear GIVI mount already lined up with the rear of the rack, I ended up mounting the case to a 1/4" heavy plastic sheet (cut the shape of Daves rack) and was able to move the case an additional 1" (or 2" I forget)

In fact if I was going on a long solo ride, I bet if I put the case back direct on the rack, then mounted the rack in the forward position it would work as a back rest for me.

Problem solved, still love the MOD rack.
