Question URGENT: Kyrgyzstan

Hey,

Can I buy a scooter in Kyrgyzstan and cross the border with Tajikistan? What would I need?

Can I register it on my name? I hope to get to Uzbekistan with it as well.

Thank you for reading... Any help will be welcome.

Finding the scooter will be your biggest problem. Find a decent translator, locate a bike, get a power of attorney written by a notary and off you go to Tajikistan. Remember that you need a GABOU permit to enter Tajiskistan on the Parmir Highway. If you can't find a decent scooter in Bishkek, try Almaty where the selection should be greater.

Well, I lived there for three years...some of my info is old though.

Motorcycles aren't really common and they're expensive. Scooters are even less common. As previously stated, Almaty may be a better source.

I foresee many many border issues between KG, UZ, and TJ with a foreigner on a scooter.

Border crossings are always hairy here. Are you planning to buy while on the new no-fee passport stamp (Assuming that's an option) or are you on a longer visa? From what I understand it helps if you also get the police to "notarize" the purchase. Just a thought.
