Shaft Drive Vibes

I feel sort of a rubbing (hesitate to call it grinding), when I'm not straight upright on the GS. It seems especially noticeable when I turn left, and lean hard. Feels kind of like a transition from smooth tires to knobbies, or a very fine rumblestrip.

The bike has lots of miles (130k), and I was told the shaft was replaced, not sure. Runs and drives great though...

Check the FD for excessive play. Change your FD oil. Examine old oil for debris. Report back.

Thanks for the quick reply. There is no play, at least none that I can tell - I'm used to checking dirt bike wheels for bad bearings, would it feel like that? If so, there is no play.

The oil was clear when I checked a few months ago - I'll check again.

Could be the tires. Metzeler Tourances do that at certain speeds--usually lower speeds--when they are a bit worn.

I was wondering about that... Those are my tires too. Thanks!

Glad to hear that, folks - a much preferred answer than the alternative :-)

Thanks again,
Toby

PS, a couple quick shots from a Washington peak yesterday - beautiful day for a GS ride:
