F650GS lowering questions

Hey guys starting to look for a F650GS for the wife so she can ride with me on the fireroads. She's to short for a klr and just wondering if anyone has any info on dropping the 650. Any help would be great Thanks.

out of the box, they've got 2 options.

Low seat and also lowered suspension. I'd highly recommend trying just the low seat first in a showroom. If you do the lowered suspension you will have less off road clearance and a rougher ride.

Well, comparing the 2010 G650s to the F650GS(twin), the F is out of the box bigger. In fact I can ride a standard height/low seat G650 while I need the low suspension/low seat F650. So, I guess what I am saying there is more than just seat height at play here.

Lastly, don't fret the "clearance" thing, but do get a good skid plate. It does just fine keeping up with the big bikes with the low suspension. I doubt that she'll be be the one to take last 10% unless she has some mad enduro skills or something.

BTW, the only difference on the F650GS lowered is the low rear spring. All other suspension components are the same as the regular F650.

I have the lower F650GS. It has plenty of suspension travel for dirt roads...evan fast dirt roads. Search the web and find some one who has swaped out their "lowered" rear shock and buy it. Pretty easy to install. Note the stock "lowered" shock has a realitively soft spring...ie it is gear toward a lighter rider woman??.

IF she will be doing single track an skid pan/engine protector is a must...as it would be on any bike.

I have a factory lowered suspension 2012 F650GS, it also came with the the low seat...All I can say is it's pretty low, I would recommend to find one and test it out. Btw, I am pretty short guy :)
