Thanks....the boxes arw custom made 6" and 8" by Desert Snake Offroad. They're awesome, just did a 1600 mile trip to BOA Rally in Hiawasse with 40% offroad and a few falls, couple of trees and not a problem

As already stated,mounting up high reduces potential for damage when dropping the bike, but there's another reason I place mine there: The closer to the ground the lights are, the more they are going to exaggerate the irregularities in the surface ahead of you. This can tend to make big black shadows behind every bump, so it get's hard to tell what you are really dealing with. With the lights at headlight level you still get a sense of the topography of the surface you are about to ride, but with fewer "OMG, is that a bottomless pit??" moments.

Very good point, noted. I'm glad i went for the TT kit. I could hae chosen TrailTech, but risers say they're not fully waterproof. The TT ones were tried and tested by a friend of mine from Romania to Mongolia and back. Crash testing them in the tundra brought very good results. It's true, they are 2x55watts, compared to the TrailTech LED's, but the buke can handle that.

Do any of the lighting options other than Touratech offer a high and low light?

I would like one light to come on automatically with my high beam and one with my low beam, aimed accordingly to not dazzle oncoming traffic but give me better light.

I have ordered a One Off HID replacement for the stock low beam so once I have that installed my question may be redundant if it is good enough.

If that is the case I will probably want both auxiliary lights on the high beam.

If the $$$ don't you might consider the Clearwater Kristas.

They infinite dim down to 20% with instant 100% via hi beam switch. Work well, lots of led light. My install post is a few pages back.

I have searched and can't find the post where someone installed the Rigid LEDs using only the provided brackets to the headlight bolts... Is this possible? Picture? or was this just a late night search that I dreamed up . Really liked the Desert Snake set up, but their plasma cutter is on the fritz and being repaired. Thanks

I am wondering if anyone has used the 1200gs wiring harness kit on the f800gs? I have installed the rigid lights and have enough wire on the provided harness to wrap around the world. Done the search nothing comes up. Anybody?

I just ordered a pair of Rigid Dually and am using the PIAA wiring harness on my 2012 F800GS. Any hints, ideas and tips that I might need to know when installing. I have a bracket to attach on the side of the headlight mounting screws. I plan on wiring direct to the battery. Can I wire this into my accessory plug that is in the battery compartment? I currently have my GPS connected to this right now and know the lights put out 1 amp each which will keep me under the 5 amp Canbus requirements. Any ideas? Thanks.

I'd just wire em right to the battery, got the same ones on my f8. Don't think I'd go through the GPS plug though.

Rigid Dually's have mass. Techmounts to crash bar set up failed on my last trip. One, then the other with another 30 hours riding.

I decided to try something permanent. Nylon saddle washers with 8mm x 1.25 x 55mm SS hex bolts drilled through crash bar cross brace. I coated holes with paint then sealed with silicone to keep things from rust in the long run (and rattle canned the saddle washers.) Very cost effective. Yes, I weakened the cross member some.

I've got the Clearwaters mounted on the thin gauge steel plate - I think Ezmount? Don't know if it's stout enough for Dually.

Couple of things - I'm an aux light ho. Always have been. I like light: see and be seen. Too much? Maybe. Nice to have amber markers in pre dawn fog. Clearwaters punch a long way out and dim to 20% with instant 100% on high beam.

And yes - straight to battery for wiring.

Did you get a Clearwater specifically for your bike? I was on their website looking for mine and it seems like after a certain year they don't show anything. Mine is a '13 so I will probably have to wait even longer. I really want something that integrates into the CANbus system.

Also, I am not sure about the previous years, but my F8 has what appears to be a cutout for a fog light switch on the left side switch block and also I can see a fog light indicator in the instrument cluster. Anyone know if that is something that can easily be used?

A little input from me: I hit a deer about a month ago on my 2013 F800 a week after I got it. I came up over a hill and I could not see the deer until it was too late. Aux lights may have helped prevent this. The stock headlight is on the F8 is not very good IMO. The one on my G650GS was way better. Eventually I will update the headlight to HID as well.
