When we moved to Oregon 9 years back, we loved the house prices & beautiful old homes there...but ended up buying where the constant work was...at that time. The times that i have visited Goldendale, noticed lots of really rough properties & junked out cars in town...just out of town though, there are some beautiful homes with acreage. I would think coming from Colorado, you'd be better off in the Columbia river towns...like Hood River area (water sports, mountain activity, fairly large hospital, interstate to Portland, great riding, tourism, orchards...just fuckin gorgeous!) I live near Mt.Hood, & we commute to Portland, wetter than the gorge, but beautiful! Good luck.

I disagree, Goldendale is a nice quiet town, not nearly as much wind as Hood River, not so hot as The Dalles, nice rides all around for street or off road. Easy access to Stump town. Yeah it is a little short on services, but the people are real, not yups like Hood River.
