I've outgrown the twin F650 GS.
What mods can I get done to the bike vs. getting a bigger bike?
She is okay for around town but on the open highway I'd like something that isn't maxing out.
sprockets? can the chip be upgraded?

A power commander, and exhaust and opened up intake can help for a FEW extra HP. There is a thread on here about Touratechs build they did on an F8 and I think they cut open the top of the air-box cover. I believe I read somewhere (hey, its the internet!!) that most of these mods need to be done in conjunction with each other for them to have much effect.

You could put taller gears on it for the highway, but your acceleration will suffer.

Also, Just an FWI for other riders that might be interested, I bought my bike out of state by a few states, and mailed my skid plate as well as a few other farkles to them and they installed them for a very reasonable price. I had a long trip home after picking up the bikes and didnt want to take the risk


Also, Th 650 uses 7/8 in bars, so I found some renthal/pro tapers in the $60 range, so they should work well. Ill post up some picks when I get them in.

What do you mean by "maxing out", are you running out of revs or out of power to pull to the limiter?

A free flowing exhaust system and a Power Commander to inject more fuel would be a good start.

About a year back I wanted to get a set of speedbleeders but they only had the size for the calipers and didn't have a little one for the master cylinder (required for ABS only). Do they now have the smaller sized one? If so I'm writing someone a check!

As someone mentioned Renthal makes some bars that will work, you may have to drill/tap some mounting holes.
Also note that the bar diameter of the F800GS bars is larger than than those on the F650GS 28mm vs. 24mm or something like that ...

Another embarrassing moment.

I put my rear wheel back on after changing my tire. I am fairly certain I have all the spacers, washers, absorbers and the sprocket lined up. When I torc down the axle nut I CANNOT move my rear wheel, it will not turn at all, WTF. I tried 3 times with the same result and consulted the MAX BMW fiche to make sure things were in order. It isnt the brakes shoes because I stretched them out and they were not binding. HELP! Paul

I would pull everything apart, and just look everything over really good. Make sure your wheel bearings are spinning ok and feel good, and double check that all of your spacers are in the correct places in the right directions. Also check to make sure you didnt bend your brake rotor.

So, sometimes when I am comming to a stop, at a stop sign for example, I notice a slight vibration in the bars right before I come to a complete stop. feels like something is lose and moving back a forth...

Any ideas?
