get a roll chart holder for $20 - $30 http://www.rollcharts.org/rollchartdef.html I use the MSR Countdown brand. they sell them at the event for 20 or 25 bucks if you want to buy it there.

Garmin makes plenty of them...
This ride is always a hoot, I think it is where I first met RAZR. I always look forward to the newsletter reports, too. This is not a race, don't try and pass your bud, especially when he makes a left turn right in front of you.... ![]()

a few years ago, on Day 1, my riding partner's Husqvarna broke down. so i was on my own.
on Day 2 in the morning, at the gas station next to the Ramada in Barstow, i see CA Stu. we had never officially met but with KLR650.net and ADV we kinda knew each other, so i said "hi" and he asked who i was riding with, i told him my buddy bailed, he said, LET'S RIDE!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() there are some GREAT people on this ride! even when my buddies Husky broke down, we had every rider that went by check to see if we were okay and maybe 8 guys that actually stopped to really look at the situation even though we 'thought' we had it under control (we didn't )my buddy did get it running enough to make it to the next stop and one of the sweeps in a truck asked if we were okay, and we told him the situation. he ended up taking my riding buddy back to Palmdale. no questions. it's just what he does. no one is left behind. like i said. the best ride of the year. Rescue 3 is there. moto sweep. truck sweep. great terrain. challenging. fun. and everyone is wearing a smile all weekend!!!

This ride is right up the alley of the ADV rider with a small-ish bike and I've always been surprised that more folks don't do it:
I'm out this year, going to Atlanta for the holiday, but, again, this is really right up the alley of the riding I've seen that many of you like to do. Rich |

GPS AND rollchart
i use both, BUT i do use my GPS more during this ride.
the rollchart has great info like "washout ahead" and "soft right onto faded jeep road" (SR->FJR) where as sometime on the GPS you're zoomed in so far that you're not sure if it's the road to the right, or the road to the right. (you'll understand that one when you're out there). they are both key in helping you navigate.
