Let the beatings start....

No one appears to have one in stock in the US, and I am scanning e-bay daily.

Any one with used spare available?

Which part did you break, the center hub or the basket?

I'd go LED next time, but I want somebody to design a light with a sharp cut-off. Maybe 6 LED spots with two small projectors on each side with LED lighting. That would be slick. Doesn't have to be DOT, just be actually useable on the street.
Does your 8" use a relector or lens to shape the beam? I think a hid behind plate glass are the worst for oncomers, that shits bright.

Yup, just a diffused plate of glass, like most HID car wannabe's.

The light isn't DOT and is designed to scatter in all directions. All offroad lights are so you can see branches, etc.

The good thing is when I ride at night it's normally on trails or backroads.

Clutch Holding Tool

Can't help you with he hub but I can help you with making a tool for real cheap.

If you have two worn out friction and one steel plate you can make your own tool.
Install the three plates, steel in the middle, and clamp them together with vise grips.
Remove from the basket and drill three holes, 120 deg apart, through all three plates.
Bolt or rivet the three plates together. Now you can lock the inner hub to the outer basket.
To break the clutch boss nut loose just wedge a piece of aluminum or copper between the primary drive and driven gear and loosen, or tighten, the nut.

And while you're at it call OEMcycle and have them ship you the MotionPro clutch/flywheel tool. $20ish plus shipping for a total of $28.

Yesterday's Project

My XR came with a large rear rack with side racks and Cortech saddle bags, too big for my purpose (single track, FS roads and Jenning GP) so I was in the hunt for a small rack I could strap a bag too and carry a few tools, pump, my wallet, phone, ect., maybe a spare tube and patch kit. I have an OGIO tool bag that holds alot around my waste, but wanted to transfer some to the bike.

inmate gmanski from Germany had this thread

http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=760423

and he graciously sent me his CAD drawings. I wanted to build something similar using scrap I had lying around and wanted to keep this project out of the mill shop (i.e., use low tech simple shop tools, band saw, small brake, Tig, grinders, drill press, files and dremels that I have in my shop, or you could find pretty easy).

I drew out gmanski's plans to scale, traced them onto a piece of cardboard and then cut my metal (16ga stainless) with the brake and band saw. Then I realized with my aftermarket seat, I was going to have to modify it a little to fit,and then I decided to just punch the holes out with the Pirana and forget milling the nice oblong slots. Because of that I forgot about mounting the flat plate to the fender / subframe and had to make a little bracket which actually raised the rack up flush with the seat which I ended up liking.

I swirled it up with Scotchbrite on a die grider, but I think I'll go back and use some 300 on a DA and give it more of a "satin" look. My tig skill sucks so I ground the outside welds down and re-tacked it on the inside edges. It seems very sturdy, it's very light and should work just I need it to. My XR does have a rear fender support that was part of the luggage rack, so my new rack bolts right into that.

Just got my Acerbis 6.3 gallon tank the other day. Dang! that thing is big!!
Will try to get it installed tomorrow. Should be a big improvement over the 3.8 I am currently running.

Also first day of 106 mile round trip commute. Ride to work was pretty easy. I need to get my Vapor installed so I can see what my speed is in the dark. May try to install that this weekend also.

I also ordered a Seat Concepts cover. Can't wait till that thing shows up!! The stock isn't too bad for 50 miles but the SC should be much better.

My daily commuter is a full dresser with cruise control and stereo but this will be my Friday runner.

Thats all for now

Yeah, it's crazy how people fill this thread up with useless non-technical garbage posts. Way to lead by example Garthe.

Hope this helps, Chuck
