I believe it's n R65. Looks like the battery is sitting on top of the gearbox.
I would like to see more pics when it's finished, will be a new favorite for sure.

I have rode TONS of dirt bike miles with four inches of travel. A jump up ahead? I have rode plenty enough in the dirt on beemers and real dirt bikes to reconize a pose when I see one. I enjoy seeing photos of poeple hauling ass and RIDING. Not posing. And lately I see more posing than anything else! It's a sad state of affairs if you ask me.

I regard most of these bikes as street scramblers.

Anyway the reality is that the early airheads were competent offroad except for stunt bunny style riding. My R75/5 did over half its mileage on dirt roads and tracks in the outback. Simply fitted a set of Cheng Sing knobbies, and it was good to go.

And here's what happens when you get overconfident and hit a deep puddle of bulldust at high speed.:) (On the way to Birdsville)

The bike cartwheeled and only just missed me, so I was lucky I didn't get mangled. Heavily bruised all over though.

Took about half an hour to find the left float bowl which got ripped off by my foot. Then I had the joy of riding the bike a few hundred miles home on the dirt at about 25mph, its new maximum safe speed.

Cheng Shin were about the only dirt tyre available in our area out West that would hold together for over 1,000 miles on a heavy bike in the dirt when the temps were hitting 40ºC. I was dubious until I tried them after shredding a few fancy European makes, and they were half the price

I'm not sure if its been covered yet or not; But what do most of you scrambler folks do about the angle change on the swingarm with the extended suspension? Anything? Is there any problems with increased u-joint wear?

I'm guessing most folk are using long wheelbase bikes to base their scramblers on, right?

This thread has my curiosity peaked about the idea....

im with you mate, mustering bikes ran the cheng shin too, not just the tyres cop a caning from the heat out west, you were very fortunate in that accident, cheers for photo + story
