Dust Trek - The Ride Home

Lorie, the "you rode from where, on a what?" shnizzle let herself get talked into participating in one of the games, risking life and limb behind yers truly.

but, due to pilot error, went away from the weinie bite hungry.

The next afternoon we ganged up on a cinnamon roll at Braeburn Lodge, but even outnumbered, the cinnamon roll won. Thus we parted ways at that point, each carrying 1/4 of one of the huge rolls.

A couple of hours later, approaching Haines Jct, the mountains provided a picturesque backdrop to the little town.

After enduring temps as high as 86° north of Carmacks, the rain and cooler temps that welcomed this rider back in to Alaska felt good, and this rainbow, seen developing over my left shoulder for over 15 miles provided a fitting last photographic subject for a great trip.

D2D map

It all started in Soldotna.
Travel to Wasilla, Hatchers Pass to find it was closed, Galkona, Maclaren lodge, Healy, Fairbanks, Tok, Dawson Via TOW Hwy.
Return trip was back to Tok, Valdez, Fery ride to Whittier and through the tunnel back to Soldotna.

Hatchers Pass...

Galkona was Nice...

Denali Hwy was next to Healy...

Very nice place just to the north of town... And on to Fairbanks but not with out a visit from a UFO...

Any one guess where this critter was spotted???

Chena Hot Springs. I hadn't been back in over 20 years. That makes me feel OLD...

back to Fairbanks and off to Tok the next AM... Starting to see more ADV'ers...
Tok to Chicken and then Dawson...

At the river crossing...

I know Myself and 7Mtang had another wonderful ride to and from D2D this year. Thanks to all that volunteered to make this happen again and help make the new folks feel welcome and part of the event.
If I can help out next year in any way, just let me know.

P.S. No Small cars where injured in making of our trip this year. Last year was another story...

Film developed, scanned, and picked up! Sorry about the quality of some of the scans as I'm at the mercy of Fred Meyer and my rusty/lack of photography skills.

Real real pretty morning on the 21st leaving Fairbanks

Some Dawson-bound scooter trash outside of Fast Eddies

The proper reaction to your friends riding so slow they miss the ferry

GoldRush Friday night

More around town pics

The crazy hippie guys playing near where the hot dog stand would be later on

Justin (TheSeeker) looking mighty proud of his Dawson Edition F800GS

Cool street art in town

The banquet hall

Fun n' Games! Not all of these are taken by me as I was riding (poorly) in the games

Thanks to the camera help I've actually got a picture of me!

Say sourtoe!

Just don't open the back of your camera before you rewind...

Hope y'all had as much fun as I did!

As I look back through the decades, theres a thought that prevails. We are born without a road map and a choice of many trails...........

First time. Won't be the last.

Loaded up in Palmdale aka "Alaska at its best"

This road never ends...

Always stop in Chicken.

Let the games (aka Full Spectrum Clown Ops) begin!

It takes all types.

Picture time.

My three favorite bikes in Dawson, in no particular order. Proving once again that it isn't what you ride; it is how you ride.

Never stop exploring.

Seeing my old bike at 2012 is like seeing your ex with a dude Mattawanderer. Feels weird. But I'm glad to see your putting the bike to some good use. wish I was there. Unfortunately the government saw it fit for me to spend another summer in Afghanistan. Good news is I bought a bike while I;m here :) See you all next year.
