Hunter's Camp

Gregdee, Ditch, Mtech and I decided to do a ride out to Hunter's Camp last weekend. The weather was nice and there was some moisture left in the dirt. The route to get up on the mesa took us through the Ojito WIlderness (on a designated route) out to the Pipeline road which we took north to the Cabezon area. If you've never ridden the roads out there, it lots of fast sweepers, ocassional washouts and plenty of miles.

Here's a video of the ride out to Cabezon.

That's the DS disguise.

It's a nice DS ride Geo. We rode to Grants through Hunters Camp which is mostly forested. Then we fueled up, ate, cruised chicks at the wimmins prison and rode back on the CDT trail which is out in BFE and all desert. It's was 230 mi total start to finish in San Yisidro and 105 mi one way out to Grants.

This vid is trail as it travels along the Mesa south across the open range followed by the forested area at the Grants end. The junction sign shown toward the end of the video is where the CDT splits off headed north.

This is the last section of Hunter's Camp ride, we took the CDT back, it's 120mi from Grants to San Ysidro on a trail that snakes through open graze land, very scenic vistas You're definately out in BFE, just ask Beemer Bob

Most of it is graded dirt and very open. Our speeds creeped up on this section to the point where it was almost a race through the last 30 miles It's hard to maintain throttle dicipline when every other corner is a powerslide waiting to happen. There's the ocassional arroyo crossing which were all easily passable but I wouldn't want to ride through after a good rain.

Maintain patience and throttle control.
