I hardly watch the race at all. any of them. It is a great viewing track though and you can always find a spot. Sunday does get busy but the super screens do the job and the view from the hill near the campground shop is almost the complete track albeit from a distance. Record it and watch it when you get home if you can (be bothered to watch it after your three days full of bikes)

The cafe inside the track is a great place to get a top breakfast and take a dump your ready for the day then.
Don't bother building a fire just go for a walk and say hello to your fellow campers.

LOL. Oh, the images of steaming turds in the wrong places.

Tx, though, I didn't know about the cafe there.

Cheers,

Mick Doohan to ride RC213V at Phillip Island

"With Mick and Casey both on track, it will certainly be an exciting weekend for the Repsol Honda team" - Shuhei Nakamoto, Honda.

Motorcycle grand prix legend Mick Doohan will complete laps on Honda's latest RC213V during the Australian Grand Prix weekend at Phillip Island.

In an event that will see Casey Stoner make his final MotoGP appearance on home asphalt, countryman and former five-time 500cc world champion Doohan will turn back the clock with a series of demonstration runs.

All of Doohan's world championships, won consecutively from 1994-1998, and all 54 of his 500cc grand prix victories came on Honda machinery.

“The last time I rode a grand prix bike at all was in the mid-2000s in Japan so it's been a long while, and I'm really looking forward to it,” sad Doohan.

“The fans and the riders always enjoy getting down to the Island, so hopefully this year with Casey's retirement announcement, it's going to be a big event.

“It'll be good to play a little part in that, and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone down there.”

Doohan will familiarise himself with the 1000cc RC213V on the Saturday before the demonstration run on Sunday's race day.

Shuhei Nakamoto, executive vice-president of Honda Racing Corporation (HRC), said the link between Australian champions of the past and present will be a special occasion.

“It is great to be able to provide such a tribute to an Australian world champion at his home grand prix. With Mick and Casey both on track, it will certainly be an exciting weekend for the Repsol Honda team,” he said.

The Australian Grand Prix will be the penultimate round of the 2012 season, from October 26-28.

The last few years we have paid the extra for granstand seats, we only use them on race day and spend the first 2 days walking drinking and looking at different points. Try a lap of the track with a shout at every beer tent, its hard work. On race day to snag a good spot, your at the gate ready to go before it opens - briskly walk or run to the perfect spot and then spend the rest of the day defending your turf from those that think they can come and take your view. Grandstand seats saves the hassle. Or hang out in the camping area on the hill.

I had to put my brother back in his sleeping bag / tent on race day with mild hypothermia! He missed the 125's, then the sun came out and we got burned to a crisp. Its just a crazy place for weather.

Outrageous lies! It's always balmy, temperate weather at the Island. You can sleep under the stars ...

... when your tent gets blown away.

Can't wait! It's going to be another great year!
