As mentioned I'm 6ft riding with an Arai XD and as a result of peak buffeting I developed the screen basing it on the principle of a rolling lower pressure airflow off the lip and the "faster' laminar air being dflected over and above peak line. To me testing at a 160kph I could tilt my head right back without my head being torn off.

Buffeting occurs as various body parts of both bike and rider get into unstable airflow. As also mentioned experiences can and most times are different for most people e.g. different riding positions, sitting forward or backward on the seat, arms tucked in arms out, skinny, broad, helmet type even weather conditions on the day etc etc.

I guess a perfect screen would be a very large screen in width and height, but not many people I'm guessing want a "delivery bike" look either.

The idea of the shorter screen is for the shorter guys, as I designed the std one with taller guys in mind. Bearing in mind, airflow will vary from person to person and there is no perfect scenario from one person to the next some may experience belter benefit than others. The screen as you can see retains the std KTM screen width, making little difference on the air passing on the sides, which is rather nice as it has the tendency to keep your shoulders cool, but helps tremendously removing the buffeting from a helmet with a peak i.e. the Arai XD in my case. I tested as mentioned at 60,80, 100, 120, 160 kp/h and I could at 160kp/h lft my head almost vertically and not have it ripped off.

Some of you have asked me the heights of the screens. I placed a short and a long one with tape measures to show you the height from the lip of the curl. Sorry about the camera work and scew tape, but you get the idea.

Standard screen is 53cm


Here's the shorter one which as mentioned is 30mm shorter

Strangely now you are the 2nd person enquiring about a 690Smt, but reality for me to make a screen requires a donor bike and then come up with a screen design that will be as effective as possible and aestetically pleasing. Thereafter one needs to understand mounting points brackets etc as the smt if i understand correctly has no screen at all and make a mould from which to pull off a high end product.
Right now I have no plans to make smt screens, but what I can suggest if you can find a screen you like to let me know and possibly I may be able to have it made from polycarbonate?
