I saw James Embro's 690 at the Colorado-600, wow what a sweet bike.
The thing sounds like a twin even though it's just a single.

According to Dutch website Nieuwsmotor, which has just visited the firm's Austrian base and interviewed key staff, the new V-twin engines will include 1200cc, 1000cc and small 700cc or 800cc versions.....the smallest of the firm's planned V-twins, at around 800cc. will allow it to make models to rival Triumph's new Tiger 800 and BMW's F800GS.

The problem KTM face is that they are a business and they want to make profit.
that can be one in two ways - build low volume, limited demand (and therefore high cost) models to meet the demands of the minority or go out and satisfy the majority and build bikes that will sell in higher volumes. It is a sad fact that the majority of 'Adventure' riders do not do any more dirt than the odd gravel track, if that. As a KTM dealer I have sold about 30 Adventures in the last 5 years or so. And one was used to transport the owner and his wife to Australia (where it is still being happily ridden around the outback) and one gets taken offroad occasionally (mine). the rest do not go offroad. And it is those riders KTM are targeting with the new bike. Hopefully it will do well for them and ensure funds are available to develop a 'proper' mid range Adventure bike in the next few years ...................
