R75/5 Tank Slightly Crooked (no dents/etc) How to straighten?

Hi all,

So I noticed that my recently purchased r75/5's gas tank is eeeevver so slightly nudged to one side at the rear of the tank (where the two posts connect with the tank). It is probably only off by say... 1/2 of an inch or so.

I can push the tank over but obviously it springs right back. There are no dents in the tank and the frame is fine as well. It is fitted on the posts pretty good. Any idea why the tank may be slightly off center where the rear meets the seat?

I checked the actual spacing between the tank and the frame itself on each side where the tank meets the tool tray frame.

How could i get it properly aligned? Would I simply just bend the screws/posts that the tank fastens slightly with say a block of wood pushed in the direction i wanted the tank to go?

A 1/2" off is way too far off. Take a break and then look at and measure things until you find the 'real' issue. The front mount may be screwy, the holes to fit the two mounting screws may have been drilled off center, etc.

Rubber parts may be no good. The two posts in back? And the rubber thingie up front. Both have to be in good shape. Both are still available. Something's bent, could it be the seat is not sitting on the frame right makes the tank look off.

Like Disston said, it's probably the rubber bits. I bet the rubber bumper in the front is ripped. Like mine

A picture of the rear mis-alignment would be helpful.

Ok so checked it again today and reseated the tank and it appears to be on pretty straight now. Though it looks like the main culprite is that the seat itself is not 100% straight.

It is a plastic pan so it is definately a reproduction (it doesnt have the bmw stickers or anything of the sort).

In any case I'm much more ok with seat being off than the tank. Ill try to diagnose it tomorrow.

Ill post some pics then as well.

Cheers!
