People who love the outdoors will not find a better place than Oregon. Here you’ll find lakes, mountains, national forests, ocean, twisted and widing roads that attract bikers and drivers. Endless hiking trails, wonderful people who understand why everyone around the country is drawn here.
One of the wonders that I rode across the entire country showed itself in all its glory. At moderate tide and strong surf, flowing water creates a fantastic landscape. We were lucky enough to be there at the right time. Thor's Well aka "The gates of the dungeon" on Cape Perpetua: ![]() First we got here before sunset. I booked the motel within 1 mile of here on purpose. We came back here in the morning to see it after sunrise. It can be very dangerous as we had to stand at the edge of this well and when the water shoots up it can knock you over. My son stood behind me and held me in place. Within a few seconds the camera and lens was covered in large droplets. It wasn’t easy work. Like I said before, I believe that many people, even the locals of Oregon, don’t realize the existence of an amazing nature place here. Someone up top with a telescopic lens took pictures of our work: ![]() ![]() We stayed in a small motel near ocean. The view from our window: ![]()

Oregon
The ocean is cold, no one swims in it. It even got cold towards the night. We warmed ourselves in a Jacuzzi and went for dinner at a local restaurant that was recommended to us – of course it had to be seafood. It didn’t look like much but we came here to eat. The food was awesome, everything we ate was today’s catch.
This place is called Devil’s Churn or food processor. When the waves are stronger the splash can reach the tree on the left: ![]() Seal Islands: ![]() As you can imagine all these pictures were taken along route 101/1. It practically stretches the entire west coast. We only got to San Francisco. Even more beauty starts further south. You can jump off the bike at any location and you’ll find something interesting. In contrast of Thor's Well, I decided to take some pictures of calmer parts from a safer distance: ![]() ![]() This looks like Devil’s Churn, but this is a totally different spot: ![]() After sleeping at the shores of the pacific, in the morning we set out for Crater Lake. The road was both uphill and local and there was 420 miles ahead of us.

How odd. I've seen so many pix of the OR coast but never ones of where you posted. I definitely wish to travel to there now.
OR should pay you or at least it's C of C should for this part of your RR.

Yep, agree! At least to compensate the towing expense in Death Valley

![]() ![]() Fantastic! Great story and even Greater Pictures. Nothing wrong with traveling the country on a KLR. Just have to not be in a hurry. LOL> I love my KLR for local but the 1250S Bandit is for LD rides. Ice Fields Parkway has been on my bucket list for a long time. Maybe some day. Thought about it when I was up in Glacier last July but had contiband with me so didn't want to mess with Canada or be worried about coming back the same roads to get my stuff back from US Customs. Looking forward to the rest of the story and pictures. ![]() ![]()

Just an FYI, Salem is the capital of Oregon, not Porlandia. Great pictures and story. I guess they call it "Death" Valley for a reason
![]() Also, I see someone went with the maple/bacon at Voodoo. Always a good choice!
