Spray on bed liner is probably over kill. But not a bad idea years from now when the boxes have been beat up a bit. I know the bags will take abuse but like I said, the bike is only a month old. The grip tape idea makes sense. It will keep gear from moving around when mounted on the top of the boxes. Thanks again for the responses.

DO NOT USE the skateboard grip tape!! It is basically sticky backed sand paper and is too abrasive.
Instead use motorcycle grip tape like Factory Effex makes: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...pe-Sheets.aspx It comes in colors as well as clear

Thanks SB and Evil Twin. All good advice and suggestions. Now I realize there are many more options than just the 3M film I originally was going to buy. The translucent skateboard tape looks good too. Thanks.

Clear shelf liner paper at walmart. Very inexpensive and you can just cut another piece off of the roll anytime it starts looking bad. There is enough adheasive to keep it on but not so much that it is a pain to remove.

As luck would have it, I was working out in Laguna Beach the other day and I stopped at a surf shop. I picked up some self adhesive skim board grip pads. They are made from a soft sponge / rubber material and are big enough to cut to my desired size. I think this might be the solution I am looking for! I'll try and post some pictures after I cut the pads and stick them on this weekend.

Had the same problem. I found 8mil clear bra film on Ebay. Put it on the front of the bags too to protect them from bugs tar and rocks.

If you ask for a couple of square feet, most sign shops will just give it to you. In any color you want. You can also use it in wear areas, such as near the ignition key and foot pegs.
