Boring Iowa ride with pics

That's right, Iowa is flat and boring, please everyone stay away. But if you wander through off the beaten path, you might see sights like these.

I took a little 70 mile jaunt south of Dubuque on the gravel roads near the Mississippi. Considering it could be snowing, the 60F sunshine was very nice today.

Lots of old crumbling stone buildings in this area.

Deserted winding gravel roads.

Rolling farms near the Mississippi.

Little meandering creeks.

Mississippi in the background.

Another view of the river in Bellevue.

Places I'm probably not supposed to be.

Massey's Landing on the Mississippi backwater.

Next time I'm in the area, you will probably be able to ride your bike across the river!

I didn't know there was gravel in Iowa!

Those are some cool pics Mike!
We went for a 200 miler today up to Clark county but it turns out that today was youth hunting day in Wisconsin and there was no riding on the ATV trails!
Damn, oh well. We did get to ride some of them though because they were forest roads. Its kinda scary being out there when you know theres kids with high powered rifles in the woods.
We rode the knobby ridge singletrack trails and there were a few people up there from a dealership. They were out riding when we got there but they had a Gas Gas 400 dual sported on their trailer. Damn sweet piece of machinery!
I need one.

OK, hijack off. Nice report !

Someday I need to come up there and you can show me around. I'd like to ride the ATV trails. We are probably just going to have to put it on the calendar sometime, so it happens.

We should just plan on meeting in Maquoketa sometime. Although I get to be quite a wimp on streetbikes, when the weather gets cold. Mid to high 40's is about as cold as I can stand, unless I'm on a dirt bike or skiis.

We need to line up, the only three 640 Adventures in Iowa, and take a photo.

Sounds good to me. We'll probably have to wait until spring now though. There are so many good places to camp up there so we could have a 2 day thing pretty easy. I'm getting to know the stuff up there pretty good, and also some Jackson county stuff too. Maybe we can plan something next spring possibly early May. The trails are closed for most of March and April and open up around the 5th of May I think.

Sounds good, but one day rides work best for me. Maybe come up Friday night and get a good Saturday ride in. That way if I have a trials or H.S. on Sunday, I can still make it.
