Lester wheel question

Hi guys

I recently found this picture


It really looks to me like the front wheel is 18"? Is this possible? Did the ever make an 18" Lester front wheel?

Also can anyone thell me the bearing dimensions of the Lester front wheel. I am most interested in the outer diameter of the bearing seat.

And if anyone has a set, please sell them to me.

The brake discs don't appear to fill up the wheel, as it does on a 18" rim.

However, Lester did make a lot of different wheels for many brands.

Those aren't Lesters. They are most likely Morris.

Thanks for your answers guys. Morris wheels? Sounds interesting. Any more info on them?

Any other suggestions for a set of 18" cast wheels for a BMW R90. Wheels that are not snowflakes.

Kosman Specialties welds rims to existing wheels. You might contact them and ask if they'll do a Lester Wheel. I believe Morris is long gone. The onle rear wheel they offered for BMWs was with a disk.

I agree. I also believe the Morris mags might have been magnesium.

Heck, I have Lesters (19" front wheel) and had to look twice to see what y'all are talking about.

So, the difference between Lester and Morris was the "ribs" in the radial arms? My lester has 2, this possible-Morris has 1.

Lookswise, yes-or at least partially. Later Lesters have a flat rim surface which I think detracts slightly from their looks. Mechanically, I think the Morris wheels had ball bearings instead of the Lester's OEM-style tapered rollers.

OEM bearings

Don't Lesters use stock OEM bearings? Never had to change mine, always thought they did.

Someone must have an old R.P.M BMW brochure showing Reg Pridmore's custom BMW's in the mid 70's? That was his wheel of choice.

Yes they do run OEM bearings which is part of their problem on a couple of different levels. The main one being that they made the bearing spacer a bit long so that you could adjust it. Very few people did resulting in a lot of loose bearings and tank slappers.

Racers prefered Morris wheels because they prefered Magnesium wheels. Big diff over aluminum. I hot rodded a R1100S once and put Dynamag custom magnesium wheels on it. Night and day difference. I was ready for the much easier turn in but the difference in acceleration and braking was huge! Weight reduction? THE place to start is the wheels. Unfortuneately, it's an expensive place to start.
