Given all of the other nesting...opportunities available in my garage, what is so appealing about the filter of a cold hunk of metal sitting motionless over the winter?

Thus far, the 1/4" has repelled them; also effective against flying squirrels invading the attic!

Probably because most of the round filter bikes have a grating on the air intake from the factory, except the last year which doesn't.
I had a 79 R65 that had the round filter and no grating. I bought it from a guy who had it stored under a tarp on his porch for more than 10 years. There was a whole city of mice living under the starter cover on that one.

I remember starting up an old honda with aftermarket pipes and seeing the dogs food pellets spraying out the back. The air box was full. Busy little bastards. Cat fixed problem.

As with a lot of solutions, new problems can surface, and so it is with cats. They spray. That stuff really does a number on aluminum!

So I don't know what is worse, trashed airbox and wiring or corroded aluminum. Got a solution for cat spray?

I was thinking of drilling a bunch of little holes in the air snorkles and weaving some stainless safety wire to make a net. But 1/4" mesh might be a quicker and easier solution.

Doesn't help with the existing spray, but there won't be any more after that!

I should keep mine out, bloody cat sprayed the cover of my snowblower within a few hours of me putting it on last spring. Still stinks and will for a while longer yet.

Admittedly it's Manitoba but still... And in relation to the original problem, now the mice come into the houses to escape the ravages of winter! I need to stop feeding my cat for a while... And he's fixed so no need to resort to Mr. Cooey any time soon!

Back to trying to at least appear productive on a Friday afternoon....

OK should have said bike cover ,but that one was years ago and stunk for years after.

Better go check the shop, been away for a month. I hope the mice did not move into the tool chests, they did that before and also into the cabin filters on my car. I warned the German neighbor about that last as he parks his car outside, he did not listen....that costed him $500.00 for a complete cleanup and overhaul of his heater system and a few weeks of freezing in his car.

But check to see if there's an outbreak of hantavirus in your area.

It's airborne and we get it when mouse droppings are disturbed.

I'm not a fan of mice. I had one once run into me as I'm sitting on the ground outside working my bike.

I just moved my Pantah mufflers which have been under cover outside for a while and three scorpions fell out and scurried in various directions. I just about shat myself.
